It is nice to see the Orioles add speed. It also looks like Hyde has been given orders to play Martin and Mateo, which is fine unless you are Ramon Urias.

Urias has a sore leg or something. I think it's Franco who should be worried.

Thanks, I did not realize that.
Franco is on borrowed time, so I think maybe Urias plays third.

There is a lot of energy on this guy. His speed is certainly elite, but just from the little I have seen him, there are a lot of holes. Hopefully, they can teach him. First thing, is teach him how to take throws at second base. He never seems to be in position.

Interesting. Havent watched him play enough but I think he's earned a long look in '22. Good to hear he's so well liked. That can help more than some may realizeMASN: Former Orioles knew where Mateo belonged

Obvious small sample size but if someone that fast can start getting on-base more, that's a pretty valuable piece of your lineup

His defensive stats are phenomenal despite a lot of errors. Hope he can figure out how to hit a little more, even to like Urias levels.

Would be fine with Mateo versus a typical cheap vet, but I'd be very interested in a major FA upgrade like Correa or Bogaerts if they opt out or maybe Turner.

If Mateo keeps going at this pace, both offensively and defensively, should he be penciled in as the starting SS in '23. On pace to be somewhere between a 2 and 4 WAR player depending on if you want to take fWAR or rWAR.
You've got Gunnar having a monster season in Bowie. Is Gunnar a SS though? He thinks he is. I suspect we'll find out next spring.

He looks like it this year, defense has improved almost as much as the bat.

What Mackus said is spot on. A competitive team needs better than Mateo.

I agree.
Seams like Elias has a very small budget to work with, so its going to be rebuilding from the draft, and dumpster diving.
I have no problem with dumpster diving at all. DD made it work pretty well, but that wasnt the only way he filled out the roster.

Disagree but perhaps its semantics.
Dumpster Dan did well with that aspect of things. The fallacy IMO is thinking that you can build a truly competitive team doing just dumpster diving. Its great for filing out a roster but I do not think it gives the team what it needs to get over the top. DD did only dumpster diving.
