Apparently he hit .251 this past season.

Very young COVID eligible freshman. Good hit tool, power projection. (From the Baseball America report)

That they likely could've had in the 4th round or later. But again, I'll just have to trust Elias for now. He's doing his own thing.

He actually might be a bit overslot as a draft eligible Soph off a relatively poor year. Had a 1.150 OPS in 17 games last year hitting .450, .901 this year even though he only hit .250. Maybe they think they can fix whatever happened this year.

.251 hitter taken 30+ picks too early. Seems very on brand.

No sense having a scouting or analytics department.   Just make you the GM and take the highest rated prospect on Baseball America's list when our turn comes.   So much easier.

You're right. Why bother questioning Elias? His track record is flawless and the Orioles are fantastic.

Nothing wrong with questioning him.   It's just saying the stupid stuff and acting you are sure he doesn't know what he's doing.  It will take years to evaluate his drafts.  Results do matter.

I never said I was sure he didn't know what he's doing, but I am skeptical of his approach and the results they've yielded.

When those results improve, so will my opinion if what he's doing.

If he's going to throw season after season away to draft guys who would probably have been there in the middle of the 1st round, what are we even doing here?

Do you think he's drafted poorly in the two drafts before this?   Back it up with some facts.   Just because he doesn't pick who you would like him to pick, doesn't mean he made a poor choice.

I liked his first draft. Last year's draft I hated, and Kjerstad has been a disaster. This year's feels very mediocre. I don't know why we had to try not to win for 2 years to get any of these players.

We have nothing to judge Kjerstad's pro career on.   He has a heart issue.  When you use the heart issue to claim he was a disaster that's just STUPID.

It has nothing to do with Elias' abilities scouting and drafting, but Kjerstad has been a disaster.  Same goes for Baumler.

If Elias didn't try to get cute with the 2nd pick, neither one would be our problem.

Is that his fault? No, but it is the truth.
