I don't have enough interest or knowledge to critique the list as a whole.
I will say, Honeycutt is easily ahead of McDermott for me.
McDermott will be 27 in August.
The k's and hits per ip are impressive, and a testament to him having some arm talent... but the 60 walks and his age tells more of the story about him as a prospect imo.
Honeycutt is turning 22 in May.
24 k's in 51 pro ab's just exacerbated the concerns people had on him before the draft... but it's 51 ab's.

Is Elvin Garcia a recent international signing? Never seen that name before lol

End of a long season and only 51 ABs but only 1 XBH on top of the insane K rate in A ball is just hard to brush off
He's the 1st round pick and McDermott is destined for the bullpen.
The 5 year disparity between them has to give him the edge, regardless of how rough the 51 ab's were.

Yeah no real thoughts on exact rankings. I get why hes ranked so high but I also get the concerns

Fair, I don't really give any weight to anyone who hasn't even touched A-ball yet but if Richard does then more power to him

Fair enough. Our system has definitely been weakened by promotions and trades. I went more for upside (although I bumped Honeycutt down about 5 spots from most) over more proven.

McDermott looks like a power bullpen arm. I think Honeycutt has a high ceiling but he’s a project with huge bust potential. His debut only confirmed the fears everyone had about his swing and miss in college. If the Orioles can turn Honeycutt into a ML regular they deserve a medal. I still kept him in top ten! Lol

I no longer pay for the BA subscription but they singled him out as a player in the DSL to watch. Here’s a blurb from Rotowire which gives some background on him.
Excels in DSL
September 6, 2024
Garcia slashed .294/.439/.505 with one home run, 12 steals, 27 walks and 25 strikeouts over 36 games in the Dominican Summer League.
ANALYSIS
The 17-year-old shortstop only received $500,000 from the Orioles on Jan. 15, but he came into the year with strong scouting reports and was the top prospect on his DSL team. Garcia has a projectable 6-foot-2, 165-pound frame and the anticipation is that he will grow into significantly more power than he displayed in his pro debut. He may also end up moving to third base.

Hopefully, Honeycutt makes me look dumb. I imagine he’s going to get a major reworking on his swing. A first round pick from a D1 major conference should have no trouble with low A pitching. He did. They promoted him to Aberdeen anyway. He did even worse. I get the SSS. Call it confirmation bias in my case. The O’s took a shot on upside at pick 22. If they turn this guy into a hitter I’ll be very pleasantly surprised. Word of caution. His stats at North Carolina look amazingly similar to Mac Horvath. I have a bad feeling on Honeycutt but hopefully I’m way wrong. Heck, I loved Horvath’s swing. Lol

Hope Zach Fruit makes it just because it feels like the fans/promo department could get some great material out of it

True. BTW, BA has Elvin Garcia at 27. Kiley McDaniel at ESPN had him around #7. Big difference.

Imagine the difference is fundamental, in that some guys value being closer to MLB and other guys value projectability of younger guys who are dominating but much further away. Not a lot of examples like Basallo or Holliday where you get both in a single package.

Probably so. The highest ranking of anyone who hasn’t played at a full season affiliate by BA is Stiven Martinez at #19. Morfe, who pitched a handful of games at Delmarva was #14.
On the other hand they rated Jesus Made as the #1 overall Brewers prospect and he only played DSL last year.
