I feel bad for the kids too, as my nephew, who would be one of the better guards in Howard County basketball this year, will miss his senior season, as it stands. Who knows, I haven’t heard any county eliminate the possibility of shortened seasons or coinciding seasons of the fall and winter teams playing after the second quarter ends.
The fact is, the kids can lay the blame at the doorsteps of the federal government, certain local governments, and all those that failed to take the pandemic serious, including their peers that failed to do so as well. America has failed itself. Six months after the pandemic began, numbers are trending in the wrong direction. Take Maryland, who saw COVID related deaths more than triple from the daily death count on June 18th and that of July 18th. The country as a whole gets an E on its response to the virus.
The daily COVID related death count yesterday in the country was the 3rd highest death count since May 28th. The COVID related number of hospitalizations due to the virus yesterday is the highest it’s been since April. Neither of those numbers relate to more testing. Even the testing has been a failure, as many people are waiting two weeks for their results, which not only contradicts the proficiency we were told to expect, but defeats the purpose.
If someone were to tell you in January that a virus would kill more people than influenza, murders, gun suicides, automobile deaths, and opioid related deaths combined, in 4 less months than those five categories did in 2018, you would think people would take it serious. That would be after they told you that would never happen. Unfortunately, too many people, like seemingly some on here, let the kids down.
The decision to not play anything looks to be all but a statewide decision, made by those of all political persuasions. America failed itself, and in turn, the rising seniors who wanted to play at least one more season. Not Wuhan, not a superintendent, but America as a whole, beginning with the leadership (or lack thereof) with those expected to lead. And of course, those that wanted to express their so-called freedoms, and caused the numbers to trend in the wrong direction, six months later.

Montgomery County's decision to cancel winter sports in July was premature and makes no sense The county athletic directors and coaches were blindsided by the decision. You could have waited until December or even January to make that decision. If at that time the situation merits cancelling then do so at that time. To do so now is illogical. The DC ISL voted today to have a winter season beginning January 7th. That is a sensible plan. MPSSAA has been working on contingency plans for shortened seasons including a shortened winter season. The Montgomery County School Board really mishandled that and is at fault for making a decision six months before it needed to be made.

If they weren’t going to be in school, like all the other larger counties in the state, it was obvious that none were going to play (or start practice) until at best the last week of January, when the second quarter ends. December was out of the question, as was 90% of January.

Teachers union will try to block this every step of the way. Liberal lead Montgomery County has already said no. Those states playing football pretty much aligns with the electoral college map. All political at this point.

Vox is highly suspect as a unbiased, reliable source.
Has Vox made this whole pandemic up?

No, but you have to admit the data they are presenting is questionable.
It was just last month that Maryland temporary stop college sports, because of a slight uptick in COVID among the students.

What isn't questionable - is that with this contagious virus, if you are working out together, playing sports together, bringing families together to attend games, etc. - outbreaks will occur. That can't be debated.

Has Vox made this whole pandemic up?
Are you denying they are biased?

I'm questioning the value of this point in this case. This pandemic is super easily spread. That Vox is biased is completely irrelevant here. And if anything, they're biased towards the data and science. Are you denying they are biased?
Easily my biggest pet peeve of what Trump has done to this country, is empowering people to call news they don't like fake news or biased or evil. Such a crock of shit.

Then we go again, so now its Trump fault there is fake news. Snopes and fact checking was around long before Trump ran for office.

Thousands of games have been played with little issues. If it were any different the MSM would be all over it.
Our schools are being held up by the teachers unions. Clubs have been playing for the past 4-5 months.
BTW...the media is this country has been fake for a long time. Fake is not only saying something that is false, it is also withholding information or timing the release of information to push an agenda. The best thing Trump has ever done is expose them.
