Probably won’t see basketball until at least January...just do conference play.

I'm kinda surprised by basically anyone deciding to return to school, with all the uncertainty it seems you'd want to ensure you'll get paid somehow

Im surprised to hear that Coach K is spearheading this.
Why have the regular season, just do a pre season and have the 400 game tourney.

If this happens, you can kiss a 68-team NCAAT in the future goodbye.
I know they're already saying this is a one-time-only thing for this year, but undoubtedly it will lead to further tournament expansion.

I can understand the urge to makeup some lost revenue, but not at the expense of basically ruining a great setup.

The tournament is perfect and is inclusive of teams from every orifice of the sport, unlike most sports. Leave it the hell alone.

What's funny is that I'd imagine the networks (ESPN, FOX, even CBS frankly) probably aren't too happy about this from a ratings/financial side of things, because it severely impacts the importance of regular season games.

Exactly. Being glued to the TV for 4 straight days from noon til Midnight to decide who the final 16 are is nothing short of amazing. It's 4 of the very best sports days of the year, and this harms that. I think it would be moronic.

It's dumb because 178 teams are going to train to play one game. In only two to three rounds of a 357 teams play tournament you're almost right back to a regular tournament size anyway. If you had a play in to get to 356 teams, Round one would get to 178 teams. Round two would get to 89 teams. Have another play in to get to 88. then you get to 44 teams after round three.
Rather if they can't play basketball this November/December, then maybe when they can hopefully by January with a vaccine coming, the have conference only round robin, so 10-15 games, followed by conference tournaments, and a regular NCAA tournament.

Including every school would be silly, but this would be a nice chance for some of the solid mid-majors who don't win their conference tournament and have no chance at an at-large bid to get a legitimate shot.
Just for an example, 2017-18 Vermont missed the tournament while going 15-1 in conference play because they lost to UMBC. Obviously UMBC did alright for itself, but Vermont could've also made some noise in the tournament that year.

you can always find a case for the odd school left out or left in.

Obviously, but I'd much rather see a good mid-major get a shot than a power conference school that finished two games below .500 in conference play. Which would be more fun to see make the Sweet 16 as an 11-seed, someone like Vermont or Montana or a random power conference school like Oklahoma State? I know my answer.
