"Joyless" is the best way I'd describe this season. They staged games, they made some of the money they would have made otherwise, and that's it.

Florida pulls off probably the dumbest way to lose this year

It isn't every day a team's Playoff hopes go up in smoke (or fog, in this case) over a thrown shoe. Florida's loss leaves the door wide open for Texas A&M if either Clemson or Ohio State lose next weekend.
The SEC gave the ACC a lot of grief over the ACC canceling Clemson and Notre Dame's makeup games this weekend while Florida and Alabama played theirs. Guess the ACC got the last laugh.

As novel as it is to see Iowa St ranked so high at #6, it’s curious that one of the two teams that beat them (Louisiana, 9-1) is only 19th. Even more curious is that the team that beat Louisiana, unbeaten Coastal Carolina, is only 12th.

I agree with your argument but as soon as the Big Ten and Pac-12 announced they were going to starting late and playing abbreviated schedules it felt like it'd be impossible for either of those conferences to have as strong of a resume as the schools that got the chance to play more games.
This season has been pretty silly from the moment the Big Ten and Pac-12 decided they'd still play so I'm perfectly fine with just making the playoff the most entertaining trio of games possible and that'd include Ohio State over TAMU imo

Spot on. Its gotten so bad I don't know why you even need a season. Just anoint the chosen ones and let they play for the Mythical National Championship.
The only solution to this is to expand and allow every conference champion in. The arguments against that are as outdated as ....well hula hoops.

If ever there was going to be a Season of Change, this would have been it. But all that we have seen is that the powers-that-be in college football will move Heaven & Earth to make sure things stay the same.
I find it curious that if Ohio St and USC both win this weekend, both will be 6-0 champions of a Power 5 conference. One will almost certainly be in the Playoff. The other might not sniff the Top 10.

10-6 now, with 5:23 left in the half.

To the half and Northwestern maintains its 10-6 lead. At this point, unless the ohio state university has an entirely different showing the second half and everybody else craps the bed there is no way they'd get a vote from me for the CFP.

It would be so epic if OSU loses this game and misses the CFP, when there is a possibility that the Big Ten could have followed the original rules it set and the Buckeyes might still have made it.
