Committee is NOT impressed with the undefeated G5 teams.  BYU at 14 isn't that shocking when you consider their schedule.  They'll have one more game against San Diego State but that won't get them close.

 

BYU never stood a chance. They did as best they could to cobble a schedule together, but with no Power 5 teams on it and really only one impressive win at Boise St, they'll be left out. Cincinnati at #7 is interesting. They have two games left, one against #25 Tulsa, but I think they need a lot of other help to have a shot.

USC's game vs Colorado game was canceled. Colorado will now host San Diego St, who were originally supposed to play Fresno St.

Even during a pandemic with numerous postponements and cancellations to the CFB season, Bama is still gonna be the #1 seed

In a game that only came together this morning after a COVID-cancellation, #13 BYU will travel to #18 Coastal Carolina, kickoff at 5:30 ET on ESPNU. BYU had to hurriedly send an equipment truck on the road before the agreement was even reached, just to make sure it would arrive on time.

 

This makes me wonder....if a game involving two ranked teams practically on opposite ends of the country can happen this fast, why not use this as a template to improve the game? They could start the season with everyone playing their conference games, then have two open weeks at the end of the season for everyone to schedule OOC games that would be set up sometime in the week or two before Thanksgiving.

 

Obviously the teams just outside the Top 4 will want to get quality opponents in hopes of moving up. And while the Top 4 might be inclined to schedule a cupcake game just to avoid a possible loss, it's not hard to see why they may want to avoid that too, as it could come back to bite them. I think something like that could lead to some really interesting late-season matchups, and certainly a lot better than some of the September Snoozers we usually get.
