The clubhouse would revolt if they sent Cano down. Like, if there weren't an MLBPA, the Orioles would unionize. Hell, Peter Angelos might even represent them.

As it stands now, I would be shocked if they optioned Cano or Baumann.  We are still about 3 weeks away from Givens or Tate being ready, so much can change.

#orioles also transferred RHP Dillon Tate to the 60-day Injured List with a right elbow flexor strain. The Orioles’ 40-man roster currently has 40 players.

They knew about Tate's injury in November and did nothing to improve the pen aside from Givens. This wasn't an unforseen problem. Bad roster building, IMO.

None of us knew about it until ST started, but they knew and should've acted accordingly. Especially in the bullpen where you actually can make some meaningful additions even if you're stupidly playing by their artificial 1-year only restrictions.

The new injury isn't the ligament, stress reaction like DL Hall had a couple years ago that healed with rest and rehab.

I feel bad for Tate.  He never said no to the ball, especially last year, which is probably the reason he is hurt now.

I guess he never was off the IL but if hes on the 60 day IL and has been pitching he has to be on the 40 man right. Unlike say Means who is technically on the 40 man but not taking a roster spot. Im confused.

They did, but he's been on the IL since opening day so he's already past 60 days. I imagine they're hoping he's within 30 days if they have him pitching again, I assume the rehab clock starts again with him pitching.

Guys on the 60-day IL can go on rehab assignments.

Means is on the 40-man, but not counting against one of the 40 spots because he's on the 60-day IL. Same for Tate.

But he started on the 10 day IL. Interesting that you can switch that to 60 , give yourself an extra 40 man spot, and allow the rehab assignments to continue. Seems a bit exploitable.

Still exploitable but changing the diagnosis or injury makes it make more sense.
