I hope he develops and proves to be a hammer.

 

....but it just feels wrong.

All serious, it's an easy mid-90s arm, but comes with a limited track record and inconsistencies in the secondaries. I think it's a solid pick but would have gone in a different direction.

CBS had him going 16th to Tampa Bay in their most recent Mock...

Not really an overdraft..but you had consensus better talent out there.

As I said in the other thread and dude said here, I hate the profile of why he ended up being worthy of this pick.

I assume Grayson Rodriguez was scouted by the Orioles' 2016 Scout of the Year, Thom Dreier, who covers south Texas. He's selected Tanner Scott and Donnie Hart, among others.

The consensus is certainly a big arm with great stuff...jumped up boards this year.

Don’t think he’s an overdraft and clearly has big time upside.

The question is, should they have passed up the other guys that most had rated higher?

Only time will tell that.

Talent wise, it certainly sounds like he was worthy of the pick.

I don’t like that Singer has pretty mediocre K rates for a college pitcher.

I'm one who really doubts there is any difference between the 10th rated guy and the 20th rated guy. Maybe even deeper.

It won't matter who else was available if he makes it as a solid starter or better. But we will memorize the names of guys taken in the teens who hit if he fails. Just how it works.

No comment on whether this is a good, bad, underslot, overdraft, or whatever. It's the Orioles, so it's easy to assume they screwed up even of recent drafts have been pretty successful overall.

Grayson Rodriguez looks bad to those with older reports. On point for those with recent reports. Lots of helium. Some thought he could go sooner. Big arm.
