It is sort of amazing with how much we’ve sucked for largely 1/5 of a century we’ve never had the #1 pick in that time period.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

"Now OPS sucks.  Got it."

"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."

"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

Still fully expecting them to have a mini win streak in september anyway to fall to 2-4.

But in the end, it may be a moot point. I’m sure they’d draft a lesser talent for signability purposes than the top guy in the draft.

Orioles still holding firm. KC (has lost 6 in a row) is new number 2 with the White Sox falling off a bit and in a virtual tie with the Reds. .  Only 19 game left until the half way mark.

1. Orioles: 19-43 (.306)

2. Royals: 21-43

3White Sox: 21-40

4  Reds: 22-42

5. Marlins: 23-40

6. Texas : 27-39

Don't think it needs it's own thread, but here is how this year is comparing to the worst season in Orioles history, 1988.  The '88 team's 107 losses are the most in franchise history.  Only one other team lost 100 games, the original 1954 Orioles.  That team lost 100 in 154 games, which is a pace for 105 losses over a 162-game season.

Thru 65 games:

2018 Orioles 19-46

1988 Orioles 18-47 (1 GB)

100 losses looking like a pretty good bet. I still doubt theyll seriously challenge the '88 team though

One pace to be 13 games worse than '88.

I think they come close, if not surpass their futility. This is as bad an Orioles team that has ever existed and it seems the clubhouse is lost. Never a good combo.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

This is as bad an Orioles team that has ever existed and...

The over-statement of the team is old.

The team is playing terrible, got it.  Maybe they'll be the worst Orioles team (record) ever, but I doubt it.

....but the team isn't generically that bad.

They are at the irrational bad end of possible results, like the 2014 team was at the irrational good end of the possible results.

It's the extremes of variance you can get out of a season.  If you played the season 1000 times (you can't, but if you could), their average win total wouldn't be in the 50s or even 60s.

It's the same 78 win team we started the year with (average), playing really bad (results).

Yeah, I agree this team shouldn't have been nearly this bad this year..and last year as well. That said a myriad of factors (external and internal) were lined up against us and were unlikely be favorable for us this year as they had been in previous years. That was pretty obvious to me in the off-season. The Cobb signing was particularly dumb to me. We should have sold off. That said, the epic losing is probably the best thing that could have happened for us in the longer term (maybe even the short to medium term).

Lose em all. If you're not first, you're last, at least a couple #1 picks will speed up the process. That is...if you trust this team not to botch that too (which I don't).

I noticed that. So after getting to 30 games under .500, they're suddenly .500 over the last eight games. They can't even do abject failure correctly (at least for the moment). Way to go, playing better than .300 ball again!
