I like every beer Union makes, except for Old Pro. Not big on sours to begin with, but I do like the Dogfish Sea Quench Ale. Old Pro though, while refreshing at first sip, has a saltwater after taste I can't get past. If I'm drinking margaritas, I'm getting it with no salt though either. Just me. 

 

Unions AM Gold is my favorite right now. But you can't go wrong with Duckpin, Double Duck, Blackwing... But my other favorite is the seasonal Steady Eddie which should be coming back in the near future.

I agree, IPAs are the most popular style (they used to be for me too but not anymore).  The others you mentioned are good as well,  I'm not much of a sour beer guy but everthing else you mentioned I'll drink.  Prima Pils is good although I think their Headwater Pale Ale is probably better. 

 

Basically where I'm at these days is I'm more interested in something that I can have 2 or 3 of and not be done.  That's kind of why I enjoy the lagers/pils/porters etc a bit more. Those bigger beers are nice but often they have a higher abv.  I think a nice saison is a good style.  It's something that has a bit more spice than a basic beer but lower abv than a "big" beer.  Heavy Seas used to make a great one Red Sky at night but they stopped making it which is a shame.

 

Well drinking at home or at a bbq or something like that vs at a brewery lends itself to different drinking strategies IMO. As long as you aren't driving, I think trying the more ambitious and rare beers while at a brewery is the way to go. Which btw, does not necessarily mean higher abv. There are plenty of hoppy beers that are 6ish % or under as well as some stouts, porters, sours, and saisons as you mention.

11-15 has a few I'm hoping to visit in the near future. As much as I drink Flying Dog, it's a wonder I haven't made it up there yet. My fiance and I have been talking for months about a Hershey Park/Troegs visit, so that'll probably happen soon too. She's not a huge beer drinker, but I've been expanding her horizons a bit, and she's really taken to sours. We're in OC often enough, so I suspect Burley Oak will be happening soon too. Hopefully I'll have checked all three off by the end of summer.

Did a Brewery Tour bus yesterday.  Took us to 4 different breweries.  

 

Went to Heavy Seas, Waverly, Diamondback and Brew House No 16.

 

Heavy Seas had my favorite beer.  Diamondback was the nicest one but didn't like many of the beers we tried.  Brew House was kind of neat because its an old fire dept.  A few of the beers weren't too bad.  Didn't like any of the Waverly beers.  

 

Overall, it was a lot of IPAs, stouts/porters and pale ales that we sampled...and I really don't like any of those.

 

The only IPA that I had that wasn't bad was Tropicana by Heavy Seas...but that was more because the citrus overpowered some of the hoppiness on that one.  Heavy Seas Cutlass was money though.

Went to B.C. Brewery last night. Large space. Plenty of room. Food trucks outside, cornhole and stuff inside. What was different here was how you get beer.

 

They give you a beer card like how dave and busters gives you a card for games, and link it to a debit/credit card. You grab a glass and walk up to the tap yourself, insert your beer card in the slot and fill your glass as much as you want. The beer card keeps track of how much is poured and when you leave you give your beer card back and they can either charge the card they have on file, or you can pay cash. 

 

The plus side is you can try 10 cents worth from each or the 12-15 taps or so without annoying the bartender. Also when they called last call I didn't want a whole beer, so I walked up and got a half of one. The downside is if you get too much head, if you do the bartender thing and tilt the glass to pour that off and get more beer in the glass, that is beer coming out you are getting charged for.

I haven't been, but it's fairly close to me and I've enjoyed all of their beers that I've had.

Their Rye Porter is fantastic.

 

Now that Union has moved to their new location I really would like to go check their place out.

I've been to Peabody twice in the past week. The first time they had a great 3 piece jazz trio playing and tonight was a triple can release featuring Goonda Beersmiths. The relase featured two new IPAs and a stout, which were also on draft and then there were variants of each beer on draft as well. So that was good times before going to the bloodbath that was the O's game. At least there was a nice shirt giveaway,

 

Back to Goonda, I think they're probably one of the best 5 breweries in the state right now. They're young and don't have a ton of beer out at any given time, but what they do put out is consistently high quality.

Yeah, one of my biggest issues with living in Baltimore is that there isn't any amazing breweries here.

Goonda though does release their beers locally.
