That's the power of evoking emotion. Cochran was pure genius in this sense, very theatrical... and it worked.

Karma is taking care of OJ though.

Also, agree with whoever was mentioning it earlier, I finally got around to the ESPN mini-series on this, and it was EXCELLENT. Much, much better than this show.

Yeah, that's one of those times in my life where I can still close my eyes and see the scene clearly in my memory, probably because I was also shocked.  But, yeah, that reaction is understandable in a lot of ways.

I was 9 years old at the time, and knew about it, but was nowhere close to comprehending it fully. I had no idea about the relevance of the Rodney King incident to this case, for instance. That ESPN doc was incredibly well done and informative.

It was a brilliant strategy.

You were able to pull on the emotional strings of the people.

People ignore facts when emotion comes into play and with the backdrop of the riots and the history of the LaPd, it was a perfect storm to get OJ off.

The prosecution did make some mistakes but at the end of the day, the evidence doesn't lie.

What I feel was wrong is if the scene in the bar where Marcia shows how ridiculous it was actually happened...why the hell didn't she do that in court? How could she not show how ridiculous the timeline was?

It's easy to say OJ did it...all of the evidence says he did. But I do think it's fair to question whether you can say, with 100% certainty, that he did it.

If you can't say that, you can't convict him.

That's what DNA is for. And I just don't see any motive for even someone like Furhman (sp?) to plant that, or how he would've anyway.

The motive was explained..Hates blacks, doesn't like interracial couples, etc...

Now, I think that's flimsy and I think the undisputed facts (that the defense didn't even attempt to dispute) show him guilty. But, you can say that some level of doubt was raised and that's enough.

I mean look at the Sayed case. I personally don't think he did it but there is reason to think he did. That being said, no matter what you think, there is no way he should be in the jail. They proved next to nothing in that case and he still got convicted. You have to prove it.

Their blood was in his house.

If this trial would have been 10 years later, he'd have been convicted in 12 seconds.

Instead, it took a week to just explain the DNA, which a few jurors admitted after that they still didn't get it.

I think Sayed is guilty as shit, but yea, you're right about that trial.

I don't think the evidence was planted, but the rationale for Fuhrman to have planted evidence isn't because he thought OJ was innocent and he wanted to frame him.  It's because he thought OJ was guilty and he wanted to make the case stronger.

But how would he have come to that conclusion immediately? Only way he can assume is because OJ is black, at least based on his history.

I believe there was history between Furman and OJ. Think he had responded to a previous domestic abuse dispute. Nothing was planted or tampered with. The police took it way too easy on OJ initially. And that verdict from that jury was always going to be not guilty. Cochran just put the last nail in the coffin with his theatrics.

This is correct.

OJ used to host parties with the LAPD all the time, they absolutely took it easy on him from the get go.

Never been anything like it since. Captivated the country for over a year. From the murder to the verdict. I was in HS on a class trip to the Renaissance Fair when the verdict came in. An actor on stage in a skit broke character to announce the verdict.

If Twitter would have been around the night of the chase, it would have broken the internet. Would have been unreal.

The Rodney King trial definitely had something to do with this verdict IMO.

Its amazing to look back at that.  I started watching the ESPN documentary tonight and when they talk about King and you listen to the cops, you almost wonder if they actually believe what they said.  By that I mean, when a guy is on certain types of drugs, its almost as if they are superhuman and can't feel anything.  Yet, when you watch the tape, its not like you see a man who is getting up and charging at these guys.  I don't have much doubt that they were racists cops but I do wonder if they actually believe what they said or if that just sounded good to them?

Crazy watching some of the riot stuff.  The brutal attack on Reginald Denny still stands out as the marquee moment.
