I had thought you could back date the IL trip to the last game a guy played, but it looks like it maxes out at 3 days.

If Mount were to remain on IL into the post season, would Kjerstad then be eligible to join the playoff squad as his replacement? I know he has to serve the full stint, isn't that the rule? Or because Kjerstad wasn't technically called up to replace Mount, is that not the case?

I'm pretty sure he is already eligible. You have to be in the organization and on the 40 man on 8/31, but since he wasn't on the 40 man he can replace someone else who is on the IL and served their time, like Vavra, Akin, Tate...doesn't have to specifically be the person you replaced. That's my understanding anyway.

I know Ive heard we should be able to get Kjerstad on the postseason roster. If hes eligible thats all that really matters. I think at this point you may prefer to have both on the roster. Kjerstad is just a stick. McKenna would bring more d and speed. Kjerstad a LH bat thats a threat. Id take Kjerstad

Yeah he’ll be eligible regardless. Have to “petition” MLB for him to take the place of a guy on the 60 day IL but it’s a formality.

Then why isnt he playing vs a lefty
Interesting question unless he's not just quite ready but they want him to be able to ph. Seems to me, like you, if he's activated you'd want him to get some at bats the rest of the way.

I think McKenna still has to say down 10 days before he can be called up. So by making the move yesterday, even if Mountcastle isn't quite ready, McKenna will be eligible for the ALDS roster.

Good catch. Might be exactly what's happening.
