As for Serena, you do have to wonder if she will break or even tie Court’s record.
I would still lean towards yes but she had 56 unforced errors last night. In the US Open last year, she kept beating herself with her serve.
At her age, being a mom and her body condition, it gets harder and harder to practice all the time, stay in top shape, etc...the inability to do those things will lead to more errors and more mistakes. She could easily win 2 of the 3 majors this year but she has to be able to practice more.
It’s kind of like Tiger. First he had to get healthy but then he also had to be able to play and practice more. It’s easier for him to do with his kids being older but he’s still not doing it at the level he used to. That causes him to not be as sharp as he used to be...of course age has something to do with that as well.
But Tiger is figuring it out and is winning or is in contention in a lot of the tourneys he plays in...but he will also still miss a cut, which is basically what happened to Serena this week. Once she finds that balance, she should be able to win a major or 2 again but her time is definitely winding down.

That’s back to back 5 set matches where he had to stave off a lot of match points.
Hard to believe he has much of a chance vs Djoker though.
Far more likely Djoker wins in straight sets than Fed wins the match imo.

Fed survives 7 match points to win a 5 set match.

Yeah, Fed was lucky to get through as he said. Sandgren got really tight and in the 4th set tie break, he went away from the things he had done successfully earlier in the match. After that it looked like the anti inflammatories (Fed had a groin injury) started to kick in and he started started to pull away. He'll need to play his A game and Djoker's to have an off match if he wants any chance of winning.

Nadal lost to Thiem this morning, so Federer's record is safe for now.

Kenin beat #1 Barry, so an American will be in the final. Halep, the #4 seed, also lost.
Who was the last American woman to win a grand slam title that wasn’t a Williams sister?

Djoker wins in straight sets. Pretty predictable.

Sloane Stephens won the US Open a few years back.
Other than that, I had to look it up. I actually guessed right but only by luck lol.

Sounds like Wimbledon is going to be cancelled - bad news for Federer's chances of winning one more major. Bad news for Serena, too.
The French Open was rescheduled for the fall.

I'm half kidding, but was he trying to just get it now so that way he would be good to go for French and US Open later this year? Kind of like those chicken pox parties from back in the day

Yeah, I've always liked Joker, but that really rubbed me the wrong way when he was blaming the tourney "it was too soon to have a tournament"... when it's much more likely he caught it at the indoor clubbing scene.

The US Open starts today - good chance for Djokovic in a somewhat depleted field.
