Can somebody explain to me how "The Lego Movie" doesn't get a nomination for best animated film?

I bet Boyhood wins best picture. Just because the academy likes that it took 12 years to make. They love that outside the norm stuff.

Yeah.

It's a pretty mediocre movie aside from how it was made but you do have to commend it for that.

It will win but doesn't deserve to and looking back a few years from now it will be considered one of the weakest Best Picture winners of all time.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

I liked the realistic approach to the film...it always held my attention. I just feel like there should have been more defining moments. Nothing sensational...but I thought there could have been more to it than there actually was.

The live action in it?  I don't know.  I liked it.

I think Birdman is gonna win and it'll be a shame that one of the best movies I've ever seen didn't...

It was qualified, just didn't get enough votes. Crazy to me that something like The Boxtrolls can make it in over it.

Boyhood isn't the most entertaining film, but it sure did stay in my head for days afterward.  That alone is remarkable.  I felt like I had watched people grow up in a matter of hours, which was quite freaky.  Whether it entertains to the hilt or not, it deserves all the accolades it will receive.

Certainly if the director doesn't win the director award, Kayne West needs to storm the stage.

Edit:  Upon further reflection, I truly believe being the father of an 18-year-old daughter made this movie more weighty to me than if it was earlier in my life.  Your child's childhood can vanish in what seems like two hours, which the film simulated so well.

I am looking forward to seeing this.

I may watch Boyhood some day but I don't have a lot of desire to see it.

I've only seen two of the 8 best picture nominees. Not much interest in Imitation Game, Theory of Everything, or American Sniper but I'll see them when they hit DVD. Looking forward to seeing Whiplash, Birdman, and Selma.

Usually I've seen more by now...

American Sniper is on my list of movies to see.

Birdman doesn't sound all that appealing to me but I may see it when it comes on HBO or something.

Have heard TOE wasn't good but Redmayne was excellent.

They should play it on Lifetime, seemed made for it. The performances make it watchable though.
