Very interesting as poetry... but it also represents the day the music died...

Best rap albums by year, from 1989-1999

1989 - De La Soul, 3 feet High and Rising

1990 - Ice Cube, AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted

1991 - A Tribe Call Quest, Low End Theory

1992 - The Pharcyde, Bizzare Ride II the Pharcyde

1993 - Wu Tang Clan, Enter the 36 Chambers

1994 - Notorious B.I.G., Ready to Die

1995 - Raekwon, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx

1996 - Ghostface Killah, Ironman

1997 - Wu Tang Clan, Wu-Tang Forever

1998 - Gangstarr, Moment of Truth

1999 - Mos Def, Black on Both Sides

1993 and 1994 are probably the best individual years for rap music...so many good albums released in those years.

I continue to LOL at Cuban Linx over Liquid Swords.

Lyrics and beats are better on OB4CL and it had a bigger lasting impact on rap, post 1995.

Liquid Swords is a beast, though.

Good list but in 98 I would have to go with Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star also in 1996 The Coming was very good by Busta Rhymes and I understand you wanting to The Pharcyde on there because they are awesome but over The Chronic?

<p>I am pretty sure Shack is thinking of PBR.

Yes. 100% yes. I think Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde is one of the best rap albums ever, easily top 5.

I recently re-listened to The Chronic and while it still holds up there's some definite filler on it.

The Coming is a good album. I wasn't too big on BR after that album, actually.

Listened to Fugees' The Score recently for what was probably the first time in over 15 years. Good album, but not as great as people make it out to be. I'd give it 3/5. I think it was an album that a lot of pedestrian rap fans bought since it was such a huge album when it came out, and they thought it was one of the best ever when it was far from it.

There were a few songs that were really good but I do think theres a drop off.

It doesn't touch Ready to Die.

Well yea.  Ready to Die is only the #1 rap album of all time.

Coming around to appreciating OutKast...I wasn't a fan of theirs in the 90's and generally despise southern rap which I think ruined the genre. But as I am hearing some of their stuff on Pandora they were very talented and did usher in a new sound.

Their first 3 albums are amazing.

Dunno why but I didn't dig much from them from Stankonia on.  I mean it's okay but not like those first 3 albums, imo.

I'll never forget seeing them at UMD's Art Attack on The Mall.  That was a wild show and I think was probably the main reason why UMD started doing the concerts in Byrd.

Does anyone ever cringe at some of the lyrics in rap songs?
