Since the beginning of July, Chen has pitched 44 innings.

In that time span, he has a 2.86 ERA.  He has a 4.6:1 K/BB ratio.  His K rate is 7.5 and his BB rate is 1.6.

The black mark is the 5 homers he has given up...But that isn't terrible but compared his other excellent peripherals, that sticks out.

Overall, he is 12-4 this year with a 3.76 ERA, a 4.25 K/BB ratio and a K rate of 6.73 and a BB rate of 1.58.

His issue is the HR rate.

Since coming to the Orioles, he has been worth around 27M...nice return on the investment for the Orioles.

Last year, he had 23 starts..same as this year..Last year, in those starts, he had 137 IP..this year? 136.1 in the same number of starts.

He has been very consistent since coming here...ERA+ puts him in the league average to slightly above league average.

Agree, Chen has been a terrific signing.  And we still get him for another cheap year next season!

And that ERA+ is the entire league, with bullpens this year being so dominant.  If you consider only starters, he's pretty clearly above average.  He's still only a #3 type, but he's very reliable and very valuable.

Hmm is Joseph hurt?

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

As of yesterday, at least, he was in good spirits:

If anyone wants an appetizer, the Philly team is playing in Williamsport with Mo'ne Davis pitching and the place is ridiculously packed. Even the hill is full, and this is just to get to the US final.

IF anyone is not watching the LLWS game between Vegas & Philly, you're missing out.  Right fielder just made a Markakis-like catch and save Vegas 2 or 3 runs.  Crazy good baseball from kids that are only 5 years older than my daughter...crazy what 5 years and living and eating the sport can do.  These young kids look better than half the pro teams.

I see a couple goths behind home plate. "Ugh, this game is so conformist."

Teach your daughter to throw a left-handed knucleball so we can be talking about Mo'ne Fishteacher on here in a few years

My daughter is right handed and loves playing the field. However she's a tall kid so she will be a big hitter over time...when she starts listening to me finally.
