Twenty over, y'all. Twenty.
Remember when we were, not happy, but relieved to not be 20 games UNDER .500?
Yeah, me neither.

The highest issue with a new NYC team is getting loyal fans to switch allegiances. I don't see that being all that likely for the vast majority if the population. At least in the short-term.
It wouldn't be a short-term plan, though.
People will go to games there because it is closer, and because it would be (most likely) less expensive than going to Yankee Stadium or Citi Field. Even if they don't switch right away, they will become invested in the team. Kids who grow up going to that park will grow up as fans. New residents moving to the region will choose the new team over the Yankees or Mets. All of that combines into a real fanbase. Maybe not five years out, but ten or fifteen.
Eh, I'm not sure that many people are going to the games other than to see the Yanks/Mets play there as well as tourists seeing their teams play there. I don't think that many people watch or attend games where they or whoever they're with don't have a strong rooting interest. TV ratings would be poor too IMO.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note
"Now OPS sucks. Got it."
"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."
"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

Good teams draw fans. And I think you're underestimating fans wanting to see good baseball, and being willing to go elsewhere where the commitment in time and money is less. I mean, a large part of the reason Oriole Park was taken over by, and still receives large numbers of, Yankee and Red Sox fans is that it's easier and, if not cheaper, then not much more expensive to take a weekend trip down to see baseball.

I just think there's a lot of loyalty up there, especially with the Yanks, and I don't see many of those fans switching just because there's a new team on their side of the river or in their burrough.
You're ignoring the other two-thirds of the possible fanbase that I mentioned.

We're on pace to win 94 games. I know we've played much better than that recently. I'd love to get to 100 but I really just want to win the division and go deep in the postseason. Keep it up, boys! I'm having the time of my life!
Yeah but what does our pythag say? That's the only thing that matters.
