I seriously can't believe there's any fans at this game tonight, because every Masshole is down here in OBX!
Question (and anyone else can chime in) but when you're down there do you take your kids on semi-educational excursions like to the lighthouses (Currituck, Bodie Island, Hatteras), Wright Memorial, Whalehead Club, the aquarium down there, etc., etc., or is it pretty much just fun in the sun time?

I've been saying the same thing 3 years. We leave at 4am and don't usually hit traffic til the bridge though.
Again, another benefit my dad figured out early on in our excursions there. Get up super early to make the trip and check in and still get something out of your Saturday or leave a little later on Friday, check in in the afternoon at your hotel and enjoy the afternoon at the hotel pool and be like an hour or 2 (tops) from the beach? Granted not everyone may have the option of getting an extra day off for a week long trip but after the 1st year of going down, our M.O. was to always leave on Friday's.

I've learned something....IF/WHEN I come back, I will drive down Friday night, spend the night in a hotel somewhere nearby for cheap, and wake up early and drive the rest of the way in before the rest of the United States shows up! I can't even begin to explain my frustration with assholes on the road and traffic that should not be traffic.Glad you made it. The road is still closed headed down our way. They've got 3 weeks to get it done.
Airbnb or download hotel tonight. Trust your friend that lives in the wind.

It's the same going home. Last time I was down, we left Friday night around 10pm instead of staying til SAturday to check out because of traffic leaving is just as bad as coming....so, in essence I am possibly cutting a day out of my trip (half of today and half a day Saturday)...

Whalehead is kinda like a historic mansion (you can tour it and see it preserved from like the early 1900's and stuff) pretty much right behind the Currituck Lighthouse in Carolla.
Was just asking b/c as a kid, when we'd be down there for a week we'd pretty much do just beach/fun stuff but when we started staying for 2-3 weeks is when the adults started taking the kids on all these "cultural" trips. Which of course we just absolutely hated because it took away from beach time and because we weren't in school we didn't care about no book-learning.

Hahaha. Yeah, exactly why I thought it'd be kinda funny to mention since he's had a fair amount of base runners.
