As much as I like 4th of July baseball, probably a good thing between the late start last night, traveling, and an early start time even if it means a doubleheader tomorrow.

Well, everyone enjoy your Fourth. Go outside, grill some dead animals, get drunk, play horseshoes. We got two games of Red Sox whipping to do tomorrow.

How does the DH work for Manny's suspension? Does he just chill at the hotel until the first game ends?

I'm hosting a cookout in a few hours and grilling my amazing garlic burgers... getting drunk... playing corn hole (no, not with McNulty)... then migrating inside later tonight after the fireworks for some Cards Against Humanity.

You're lucky we are headed to the bay today or I'd be crashing your party.

Enjoy the 4th boys..I'm off to the beach for a week in the morning, might unplug completely.

Might not, but if so, hope we're in first place when I get back.

We were scheduled to play 16 straight days headed into the AS break. Now, we get a day off and play only 9 straight days headed into the break.

I'm likely in the minority, but I hate that game.

"Who's in my mouth", however, is always a good time!

Doubleheader notes (Baltimore Sun)

The Orioles weren’t involved in the decision to play a doubleheader tomorrow, even though they probably will benefit from it. According to Article V, Section C of Major League Baseball’s collective bargaining agreement, the Red Sox and Chicago Cubs have the unique right to reschedule a postponed home game as a split-admission doubleheader without the other team’s consent. Otherwise, both teams must agree on makeup dates.

That rule, created in the 1990s to account for the relatively smaller capacities of Fenway Park and Wrigley Field, also was invoked in April, when the Red Sox forced the Tampa Bay Rays to play a doubleheader on a getaway day after a rainout, instead of on a common day off or as part of a doubleheader later in the season.

When a game is rained out and split doubleheader is scheduled for the next day, both teams can add an additional 26th player who must be sent back to the minors after the second game. That player doesn't need to have fulfilled the mandatory 10-day stint in the minors after being optioned, so the team could recall right-hander Evan Meek, who was optioned to Triple-A on Monday and last pitched for the Tides on Wednesday.

That rule about the Sox being allowed to schedule a DH is BS.

Yeah I don't get why the Cubs and Red Sox would get an exception like that. A lot of modern parks aren't particularly high capacity anyway, and most revenue isn't dependent on attendance these days.

When you're in a lineup and Caleb Joseph is batting ahead of you -- might be time to fill out those job applications.
