Having a big driver doesn’t matter if your short game stinks
Yeah you use your driver 10-14 times a round. What about the other 60 shots if you’re a scratch golfer?
I get he wants to hit wedge into greens when other guys are hitting 7 iron. But pros can hit 7 irons like they hit their wedge.

Will have to finish his first round tomorrow. As will others.

Justin Thomas looks like a cold blooded killer early. May pass Casey for the lead by the turn.

Not a golf guy, but how are they going to deal with it getting dark at 5:30 PM?

Well originally they were teeing off on 1 and 10. But the weather delay screwed them.
I would imagine the tourney may end on Monday

In the past they have played more than 18 in a day if they have to. Before weather they were planning an early start for Sunday anyway to not compete with the 4pm NFL slate. I could see some guys finishing round three at the break of dawn Sunday, then start round four. Could also have final threesomes instead of pairings.
I could see from a spectator standpoint they want this to end on Sunday. But no fans, maybe they go to Monday cause whose plans are really affected?

Also wasn’t a good sign that the day before a major he was on the fence about which driver to use. His usual or a 48” he was toying with. Trying out shafts, heads (sounds dirty I know). Day before a major isn’t the time for being indecisive about equipment.

Looks like the Green Jacket for Rory to complete the career grand slam is eluding him again. +1 thru 12 (first round), 8 shots back. Tee shot deep into the woods on 13.

First round wrapping up and the second round is underway at the same time. Dustin Johnson has only a 30 minute break in between. The last tee times of the day are 2:52. Certainly going to be some carryover to tomorrow. But once the cut line is established they can probably do threesomes to get all of round three in tomorrow.
3 way tie for the lead at -7. DJ, Paul Casey, and Dylan Frittelli. Sung-jae Im is at -6 with the 18th to play to make it a 4 way tie to end round 1.

Notables:
Teeing off shortly
DJ -7
Justin Thomas -6
Langer -4 (63 years old, won the Masters in 1993, was the last time he shot in the 60's in the opening round)
Colin Morikawa -2 (PGA champion)
Phil -4 (-1 just started round 2)
Tiger -4 (defending champ, tees off at 2:30)
Bryson -2 (U.S. Open champ, tees off at 2:08)
Jordan Spieth +2 (starting to think he doesn't qualify as "notable" anymore. Been a long time since he's been relevant in a tournament, much less a major).
Rory +3

John Augenstein, amateur, has moved up to -6, just two back of DJ and Im at -8.
The best amateur finishes in The Masters are three guys you've never heard of finishing 2nd in 1947, 3rd in 1954, and 4th in 1957. Then Jack Nicklaus finished 7th in 1961 as an amateur.
Recently, Hideki Matsuyama finished 27th in 2011, and Bryson DeChambeau finished 21st in 2016.
Augenstien is a 5th year senior at Vanderbilt, and by finishing 2nd in the 2019 U.S. Amateur got an exemption for the 2020 U.S. Open, as well as the Masters. In the U.S. Open he shot +9 and missed the cut.

Lee Elder, the first black man to play in the Masters, will now join Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player in the traditional Masters ceremonial tee shot to open the event.
