First off, I love that Jeter is not an option at SS.

In fact there are less Yankees on this list than I would have thought.

Here's mine:

P Maddux $1

C Rodriguez $3

1B Cabrera $5

2B Robinson $3

SS Ripken $2

3B Schmidt $4

LF Williams $4

CF Mays $4

RF Musial $2

Closer Eckersley $2

BTW, Mantle for $1 is absurd.  I'd almost go from Mays to him and spend the extra $3 elsewhere.

Yeah Trout should be a $1 or $2 or not an option at all. I get he's amazing and all that but it's been just 2.33 years. He's still got 15 more seasons at the level he's playing at -- or even higher -- to be ranked #1.

Why is Craig Kimbrel $4 and Eckersley $2?

Interesting that people are spending premium dollars on the closer.

Why is Craig Kimbrel $4 and Eckersley $2?

Kimbrel has been ridiculously dominant in his career. Better than Eckersley's first five years as a full-time reliever, except for walks.

I thought about that, too. But 1) I'm not thinking about him as a "closer" but as my one reliever, and 2) he's so far above anyone else in that role, compared to the other position groups, that it makes sense to bump down from, say, Mays to Cobb or Hornsby to Morgan and get the guarantee.

Agreed, if Trout got runover by a bus tomorrow, he wouldn't be considered $5.

Trout's WAY too high. I'd drop him entirely and put DiMaggio on the list in his place. $2, perhaps.

I also would drop Tulo and Rodriguez a bit, and put Lefty Grove in Nolan Ryan's place.

Regarding Trout, we're just talking about having these players for one season on their prime right? Well in that case, he and Kimbrel for that matter deserve to be right up there with almost anyone. I don't think Trout should be the $5 guy, though.

Mantle is the best choice on here IMO.You're arguably losing nothing with prime Mantle compared to these other guys.

Has Trout had a higher WAR in any single season than the other CFers?

Griffey. But Mays, Cobb and Mantle all had higher WAR seasons (Mays three, Mantle and Cobb two each).

I used FanGraphs, just because it is easier to search.
