Duncan should be the $5, not Malone.

Duncan should be a center. ;)

Or give me Duncan. Nowitzki, Jordan, and James.

I'll play with 4 guys.

A team built around MJ and the other ultimate winner: Pippen, MJ, Durant, Russell, Duncan.

Screw the positions: James, Durant, Pippen, Dirk, Kareem.

It would be fascinating to see that team matching up with other starting 5's.

Way better outside shooting than most teams, plus James/Pippen would be strong defensively vs two of the guards/wings on the other team and most of those point guards would have trouble guarding either.

Stockton is a stay away guy for me on this list. He's going to have trouble guarding most guys, isn't a great outside shooter, and do you really want him having the ball so much with these other guys on the team?

My group was Stockton, Jordan, James, Garnett, Hakeem...   I like Stockton with that group, because he's not going to be worried about getting his shot... he's just going to set the others up.  Figure Jordan and James can help defensively on the perimeter if needed... inside have defense as well.

But I wouldn't want the ball in his hands much anyway. The ball should be in Jordan's/James hands most of the time along with posting up Hakeem.

Stockton is a guy that I question if he'd be an all time great if he didn't end up in a great situation for himself. These other guys I'm confident would have been great almost regardless of the situation.

LMAO at Russell costing more than Wilt.

Obviously there is no right answer, but I'd go with:

PG: Magic ($5)
SG: MJ ($5)
SF: Pippen ($1)
PF: KG ($1)
C: Wilt ($3)

Gives me enough offense between Magic, MJ and Wilt, Pippen as my elite on the ball defender and KG helping to spread the floor on offense and adding elite defense.

Johnson, Jordan, Pippen, Garnett, Chamberlain.

Somebody's dying in a fight over the ball on that team.

If I have to go by the strict positions here the correct answer is Isiah, MJ,LBJ, Garnett, and Hakeem.

Getting Garnett and Olajuwon at the 4 and 5 for $2 is ridiculous. Probably to the best all around players at both PF and C.

I don't think you need MJ and LeBron.

You still take the two greatest ever. LBJ is diverse enough to play next to MJ.

Honestly, even if I cheated like Weber, and could take any 5 I would take LBJ, MJ, Garnett, and Olajuwon. The only difference I would make would be to get a good shooter on a wing. So , I'd take Durant instead of Isiah.

Stockton, Jordan, Dr J, Duncan, Olajuwan. Keep the change.

Wait, no, I want my change back.  I'm using my last dollar to put Pippen on my bench.

My thought process is too many scorers looking for the ball with MJ and LBJ, so I went pure point guard to distribute the ball, MJ, pure shooter for outside stuff in Bird, Duncan because I think he's a better defender than Garnett, and Hakeem cause he's the most balanced of the centers.

LBJ is still the #1 option in Miami so we dont really know how he would do if he didnt get to touch the ball as much. Pretty good assumption hed be ok cause he is diverse, but a good argument against.

I took both, but with Zeke, KG, and Hakeem, none of who need to score to be effective.

Like someone said, above, obviously there's no wrong answer.

I have:

Stockton

Jordan

Bird

Nowitzki

O'Neal

Stockton is a true point guard and considering the scorers you have on the floor he's a guy you want running the offense. He was no slouch as a shooter (38% from 3 for his career) either. Jordan arguably the greatest of al-time. Bird a flat-out winner. Dirk creates match-up issues with the traditional 4's and Shaq was a dominant force in is prime where the only way to stop him from scoring was to foul him.

I like my guys.

BTW I love this site as a help in these debates.
