The fact that it's treated as a second National Anthem when   1) that takes away part of the reason to play the actual National Anthem.   2) the reverence shown--asking the fans to stand, not just assuming they will for the stretch--creates an implied public endorsement of a particular view on religion. Not even a Christian view, just the idea that religion is necessary at a sporting event.   3) out of all of the options available, it is possibly the worst song. Seriously, if they had people stand up to "America, the Beautiful" I wouldn't like it, but I would have far less of an issue.   There's no need to turn the seventh-inning stretch into that kind of moment. You already have one right before every single game. Even though the Orioles have at least returned to playing both "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" and "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" after "God Bless America" over the past few years (they used to only play one or the other), the stretch is a moment of relaxation in the middle of a game. "God Bless America" hurts that, and it affects my enjoyment of the game.   And don't even get me started on The Wave :P
While we're at it, and I might get lit up for this, I HATE that Lee Greenwood, Proud to be an American song that they play at every Ravens game. I find it to be very contrived.

That's a better song, and does a better job at the patriotism that is supposed to be the point of playing "God Bless America", but it's also overplayed and generally redundant when you're already playing the National Anthem.

I can't understand how people really care one way or the other about that stuff. Just go drain the lizzard while all the others are having religion shoved down their throats. The lines will be lighter.
