Just saw the Granderson shot. Sweet lord.On Gameday it looks like the umpire's strike zone is somewhere between the top of the letters and the bottom of the letters. Can someone confirm?

EDIT: Oh, it's Bob Davidson. Never mind.

I think the strike zone has been fair so far, hard to say at this point - I haven't seen anything atrocious yet. I say yet, because as you said, it's Bob Davidson.

Looked like he called a couple balls on Betemit that were well into the zone. I'll adjust my previous statement to "between the top of the belt and the bottom of the belt" :D

Between JJ having the lowest BA of all guys that qualify and Nick Johnson 0-27, this offense really has a few anchors in it right now..not a good kind of anchor either. The kind that weigh you down and keep you from going places.

What do you guys think the kangaroo court fine will be for the pitcher who finally gives up a hit to Nick Johnson?

That was a really great series of pitches to Andruw Jones.

Yeah, Balkin' Bob definitely isn't calling that low strike consistently. Matusz is doing a great job keeping the ball down tonight so far. Everything is moving down in the zone.

Nice inning for Matusz as Nunez pops out to Andino.

Going to the 3rd, 1 all.

Excellent inning for Brian.

Aside from the 3-1 pitch he grooved to Granderson, he's looked pretty good so far.

Pitch counts through 2:

Phil Hughes - 38
Brian Matusz - 35

For those of you playing the home game, the 2nd inning was a 12 pitch inning for Matusz. Good to see.

Looks like lots of room in the alleys for Andino here.

Would you want Chavez to sacrifice here?

I probably would. I dunno though. I'm not confident in him to get a hit. I'd really like to see Nick and Jones come up with a runner on 2nd.
