I'll say it again, the WEST is going to be sick.

Yep. The only thing that would make it better would be if a healthy Minnesota was in that 8 spot. I'd also much rather see Nash and the Suns than the Jazz.

Agreed on all points, though I give Tyrone Corbin a lot of credit for getting that Jazz team this close to the playoffs. Didn't expect much from them this year. Favors & Kanter have been playing much better in the middle.

That Clippers/Grizzlies matchup looks delicious.

Yes, that's the best match-up of the first round in the West. I think the Lakers/Nuggs should be good as well. I can't say I think the Mavs have much of a shot against the Thunder because they just don't look that good and are down a couple of key pieces from last year.

The only first round series in the East that I think has potential is the one with the Knicks due to them playing better and the great star power both teams will have. Too bad Orlando and Atlanta have lost their bigs due to injury. The second round in the East should be better, and of course the ECF's should be really good if the favorites make it.

We'll do a playoff contest or whatever as soon as the matchups become official.

Much respect to whoever can pick these playoffs.

The first round looks pretty obvious in the East. I can't see any of the lower seeds losing. I think Indiana could have been ripe for an upset, but playing Orlando without Howard should make that less possible. And I think Atlanta would have been in good position to beat Boston, too, but not any more.

In the West, the only matchup that I think is obvious is San Antonio over Utah/Phoenix. (Is Houston still technically alive?) The others are very tough to call. I guess the Thunder are a better team than Dallas at this point, but given how Dallas turned things on last year in the postseason, and given how the Thunder aren't exactly brimming with playoff experience, I am not ruling them out. I want no part of trying to handicap the other two matchups, other than to say that the Clippers are still the Clippers, so expect something bad to happen to them.

Houston is out..Utah/Phoenix is the last battle as Philadelphia clinched the final East spot last night.

That was a SERIOUS collapse by Houston.

On April 10, here were the West standings:

6. Houston 32-25
7. Dallas 32-26
8. Denver 31-26
9. Phoenix 30-27
10. Utah 30-28

Houston has gone 1-7 in the 2 weeks since and fallen from 6th to 10th!

All they needed to do was win 3 of the 8 and they'd have clinched. And with home games against Utah, Phoenix, Denver, and Golden State, and a road game against New Orleans, they probably should have gone 5-3. Instead, they just utterly fell apart.

I can tell you this -- both Miami and the Bulls would MUCH rather play Philly than the Knicks. Melo has been out of his mind lately.

Yeah, I agree with that.

Playing Indiana, NY, or Boston before the Conference Finals will not be easy.

I assume you'll edit these if this isn't the match up? The Knicks and Sixers are tied for 7th right now.
