A pumpkin beer made with real pumpkins

 

Anyone try this yet? 

 

Unfortunately there isn't any (or I haven't found it yet) Smuttynose out here but I always really enjoyed their IPA and their Old Brown Dog Ale.  Always try to grab me some when I'm back east.  Just curious if anyone has had their pumpkin beer and could weigh in on how good/bad it is.

 

I haven't had Smuttynose, but I really enjoy pumpkin beers.  But it has to be a pumpkin beer, not a pumpkin pie beer that tastes mostly like cinnamon and clove.

 

Saranac is my favorite.  Also recently had Uinta's Punk'n which I thought was good.

Cool glad you liked it. The brewery is apparently close by you too.

I just picked up some more the other day before everything becomes winter beer.

It's annoying how quickly the fall beers get out of the stores.

McNulty, have you had Black Tuesday? I think I recall you mentioning it before. I'm considering having a CA friend help me get a bottle.

 

I've had it. It's enormous (as far as ABV) and tastes extremely boozy. We opened it at a tasting with 8 people and only three of us (myself included) finished their samples/the bottle. It was actually part of a blind barrel aged stout tasting. Finished in second (out of five) behind Goose Island Bourbon County. If gigantic, boozy, syrupy-thick stouts are your thing, then get this beer ASAP. If not, don't waste your time. I enjoyed it but wouldn't seek it out again, for what that's worth.

OK, thanks for the review. I'll hold off on it since it's so expensive and not easy to come by.

Brewers Association of Maryland just gave out their 2013 Comptroller Cup awards.  13 different categories of beers were represented.  At first glance I would say the biggest snub is Evo's Porter not placing in the Porter/Brown Ale Category.

haha, blind tasting sounds so formal. we just hang out and ask the non-participants to pour them for us, so that it's blind. i lucked into having a few friends who like trading on Beer Advocate.

I bought a St Bernardus Christmas Ale last February with an eye on drinking it this winter.  I don't know how much longer I can wait.

I believe there was a Sam adams that I liked but I am not sure...Thought I liked their White Christmas??

 

I know Tucker was/is a huge fan of winter beers but I tend to think many of them are darker than I like...is that true?

Many are dark, but there are some exceptions. Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale is an IPA and it's excellent IMO.
