MD vs. George Washington Sunday at 3:30 at the Verizon Center in the BB&T Classic.

GW is 7-1, with wins over Miami, and Creighton.

The Colonials are led by transfers Maurice Creek (Indiana), and Isiah Armwood (Villanova, previously recruited by MD, from Baltimore).

 

Creek, 6'5 Sr Guard, 15.3 ppg, 46% from 3 on 5.7 attempts per game.

Armwood, 6'9 Sr Forward, 14.4 ppg, 7.9 boards..

Rebounds per game 75th

Assists per game 44th

This is a very important game for MD. The Terps already have 3 OOC losses. They need to avoid a 4th, and add another potential RPI Top 100 win to their resume. They have the neutral court wins vs Northern Iowa, and Providence. This is a potential 3rd. Tulsa, and Boston University could be two others.

 

Had MD pulled the upset last night at Ohio State, you almost would have expected a let down Sunday vs. GW.  With the way the game went last night in Columbus, my hope is that MD is ready to play against the Colonials.

 

It would do well for MD's psyche to grab another win over a quality team.

Terps fans... are you past Ohio State yet?  I hope MD's players are. Huge game Sunday....  Patrick Stevens, and Alex Prewitt both have favored GW in this game.

I'm def past Ohio State, but as I mentioned the other night the game really didn't bother me that much.

 

I would favor GW as well.  Would be a solid win for MD to pick up.

For MD to get to the tournament, winning Sunday is huge.

Am I past it?  Eh.  I mean one 1 hand I expected them to lose (even though I also still, as always, expected them to win).  But I think it was more of the way they lost that's still lingering around for me.

I'm not sure about that, you're dealing with so many teams and it's early December. I think it was poster, Glenn_Davis who was saying people make too much about a single game. Would it help obviously, they need to compensate for the Oregon State game. If they are truly on the bubble (and by that I mean one of the last 4 teams in and could be a coin flip either way), yes this game would factor in. But likely at the end of the day, I don't think this game will make or break their tourney chances.

I think you are looking at this wrong. One of your irritants that you post on regularly is when people call games must wins. Some of that argument you make is right. Some games labeled must wins are overblown.

 

Can MD get to the tournament without winning Sunday? Sure. 

 

They'd have to exceed their expectations (a Top 7 finish), with multiple significant wins. Made harder by the fact that due to MD's schedule, there are less opportunities for marquee wins.

Or they would have to do significant damage in the ACCT.

You expected to lose to UConn (slight underdog, but still expected to lose.) You expected to lose at Ohio State.

You did not expect to lose to Oregon State. Going into the year, you did not expect to lose to GW.

If MD loses Sunday, their only OOC wins of any note will be Northern Iowa, Providence, Tulsa, and Boston University. That resume does very little for MD, leaving MD's chances almost solely to their results in conference play.

 

MD will play 18 conference games. There is probably a 95% chance that they win 7 to 10 games. At 7 or 8 wins, they will be on the wrong side of the bubble going into the ACCT. 9 will have them roughly on it, or the last 4 out. At 10 wins, they'd probably be in.

 

Knowing all that....  it's pretty clear how important this game in December is.

I'm past Ohio State, but still not past Oregon State. I think that game revealed more about this team than Wednesday did. GW would be a nice win, but I don't have my hopes up.

Jim Hunter and John Feinstein doing the broadcast at BB&T. Feinstein mentions good year in 1997 then 14 bad ones. Hunter then says, "I was there for all of them." Guessing he wasn't too comfortable with Feinstein going there.
