Buying my tickets for this today.  If anyone is thinking about going I encourage you to do it -- take the day off on that Friday, leave early, see some of the City if you've never been and head to Barclays for the 630 tip (which is still an odd start time).  The arena itself is gorgeous and is right nearby some great bar areas in Brooklyn or, if you're not into that, the game will end early enough to drive/bus/train home and get plenty of sleep in your own bed.

Plus the Terps should be good this year and the game itself should be fun.

I'll be there!  Already took all of Friday off.  My only debate now is whether to leave tomorrow night and do a night in Atlantic City (four star hotel on the Boardwalk for $49!) and then head to NY Friday morning or just leave for NY from MD on Friday morning.

Either way, pumped that college hoops is back!

Do the AC thing. Sounds awesome. Enjoy the game.

Coors light on me. I thought about going to this, but meh I'm lazy and cheap.

As discussed last night on Sports Tonight with Rob & Mike, Jonathan Graham has been cleared by the NCAA.
He should be the 8th/9th guy in the rotation. Does give MD a bit more depth.

Really looking forward to tonight, and seeing how the Terps look against good competition. What immediate impressions we can take from the game - good or bad.

Off the top, how well do the bigs play without Len in there? Also, how well does MD play without Seth Allen in the lineup?

Obviously, you can't get this from one game (particularly this early in the season), but I think these are things to start looking at now.

Always interesting to see what the freshmen can do, but I think I'm most interested in Smotrzcysyeyasyz and Cleare.  Evan has apparently been very impressive during the scrimmage/exhibition season, Cleare not so much.  I think this team needs Cleare to become a player this year to be able to take the next step.

We've had on our Zack Kiesel, Testudo Times' Pete Volk, Terps Radio Analyst Chris Knoche, Mike DeCourcy from Sporting News, Matt Norlander from CBS Sports, and Jeff Ermann from Inside MD Sports on this week, each previewing MD Basketball.

I'm not sure we can take much away from this game. I mean, they were a shot away from beating Kentucky in the tip off last year. I'm of course hoping for a win.

Yeah just one game and a while until conference play, but it's still exciting for a start of a new season.

Can't get too excited with a win or too down with a loss... or read too much into what we see... but...

1) Chance for neutral court win vs. a quality team...that would be a scalp that would matter come March.

2) OOC schedule is better, but not great... lose this game, missed opportunity.

3) Starting lineup figures to be Wells, Faust, Layman, Smotrycz, Cleare...  bench Mitchell, Peters, Dodd, Graham, and Ram. Should see expected roles develop with this rotation.

Initial impressions on Peters?

How does Wells look running the offense in the 1/2 court? Can he facilitiate, while looking for his own points?

MD should be able to spread the floor with both Layman and Smotrycz on the court together... how do they look all-around?

Cleare and Mitchell have both done a lot of work to improve physically... can they stay out of foul trouble? They need to be presences physically on both ends... get garbage points... expect Mitchell to work on the offensive glass... can they get points in transition?

Does Faust accept the assignment of being the defensive stopper?

Does Dodd look like a solid rotation big?

No doubt. Could be a quality win for the ol tournament resume as well.

Win or lose, I hope they keep the TOs to a minimum, knock down their FTs and limit the one touch possessions. Pass it around and take quality shots.
