Vonn will miss Olympics due to knee injury.

Feel bad for her.

All that training...for nothing.

Swedish Olympic Hockey Team:

http://www.cbssports...-stacked-roster

Goalies:
Jhonas Enroth, Buffalo Sabres (NHL)
Jonas Gustavsson , Detroit Red Wings (NHL)
Henrik Lundqvist , New York Rangers (NHL)

Defensemen:
Alexander Edler, Vancouver Canucks (NHL)
Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Phoenix Coyotes (NHL)
Jonathan Ericsson , Detroit Red Wings (NHL)
Niklas Hjalmarsson, Chicago Blackhawks (NHL)
Erik Karlsson, Ottawa Senators (NHL)
Niklas Kronwall, Detroit Red Wings (NHL)
Johnny Oduya, Chicago Blackhawks (NHL)
Henrik Tallinder , Buffalo Sabres (NHL)

Forwards:
Daniel Alfredsson, Detroit Red Wings (NHL)
Nicklas Backstrom, Washington Capitals (NHL)
Patrik Berglund, St. Louis Blues (NHL)
Jimmie Ericsson, Skellefteå AIK (SWE)
Loui Eriksson, Boston Bruins (NHL)
Johan Franzen, Detroit Red Wings (NHL)
Carl Hagelin, New York Rangers (NHL)
Marcus Kruger, Chicago Blackhawks (NHL)
Gabriel Landeskog, Colorado Avalanche (NHL)
Daniel Sedin, Vancouver Canucks (NHL)
Henrik Sedin, Vancouver Canucks (NHL)
Jakob Silfverberg, Anaheim Ducks (NHL)
Alexander Steen, St. Louis Blues (NHL)
Henrik Zetterberg, Detroit Red Wings (NHL)

That's a hella deep roster. I do question why Silfverberg is on the team while Marcus Johansson is not, and also how Edler is on the team while Victor Hedman is not. Glad that they got Alfy on the team though, what a year he's had.

Team Russia's roster:

Team Russia:

Forwards:

Artem Anisimov
Pavel Datsyuk
Ilya Kovalchuk
Denis Kokarev
Nikolai Kulemin
Evgeni Malkin
Valeri Nichushkin
Alex Ovechkin
Andrei Popov
Alexander Radulov
Vladimir Tarasenko
Alexei Tereshenko
Viktor Tikhonov

Goalies:

Sergei Bobrovsky
Semyon Varlamov
Alexander Eremenko

Defense:

Anton Belov
Slava Voynov
Alexei Emelin
Andrei Markov
Evgeny Medvedev
Nikita Nikitin
Ilya Nikulin
Fedor Tyutin

Dmitry Kulikov and Sergei Gonchar should be on the team. Alex Semin, Kuznetsov, and Neil Yakupov should be as well. This team is going to score quite a bit, but man is that defense weak.

Team Canada's roster:

Team Canada

Forwards
Jamie Benn
Patrice Bergeron
Jeff Carter
Matt Duchene
Sidney Crosby
Rick Nash
Chris Kunitz
Ryan Getzlaf
Corey Perry
Patrick Marleau
John Tavares
Steven Stamkos
Patrick Sharp
Jonathan Toews

Defensemen
Jay Bouwmeester
Drew Doughty
Dan Hamhuis
Alex Pietrangelo
Duncan Keith
P.K. Subban
Marc-Edouard Vlasic
Shea Weber

Goaltenders
Roberto Luongo
Carey Price
Mike Smith

One major problem with the roster: How did Rick Nash make it? Also, if Stamkos can't play in the Olympics, I assume Giroux takes his spot.

Dave (and anyone else),

Now with the rosters unveiled, how do you size up the US' chances?

I like their chances to medal. They matchup well against Canada, but Sweden could give them trouble, especially if Lundqvist gets hot.

Finland

Goalkeepers:
Kari Lehtonen, Dallas Stars (NHL)
Antti Niemi, San Jose Sharks (NHL)
Tuukka Rask, Boston Bruins (NHL)

Defencemen:
Lasse Kukkonen, Kärpät Oulu (FIN)
Juuso Hietanen, Torpedo Nizhni Novgorod (RUS)
Sami Lepistö, Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg (RUS)
Olli Määttä, Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL)
Sami Salo, Tampa Bay Lightning (NHL)
Kimmo Timonen, Philadelphia Flyers (NHL)
Ossi Väänänen, Jokerit Helsinki (FIN)
Sami Vatanen, Anaheim Ducks (NHL)

Forwards:
Juhamatti Aaltonen, Kärpät Oulu (FIN)
Aleksander Barkov, Florida Panthers (NHL)
Valtteri Filppula, Tampa Bay Lightning (NHL)
Mikael Granlund, Minnesota Wild (NHL)
Jussi Jokinen, Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL)
Olli Jokinen, Winnipeg Jets (NHL)
Mikko Koivu, Minnesota Wild (NHL)
Leo Komarov, Dynamo Moscow (RUS)
Petri Kontiola, Traktor Chelyabinsk (RUS)
Lauri Korpikoski, Phoenix Coyotes (NHL)
Jori Lehterä, Sibir Novosibirsk (RUS)
Antti Pihlström, Salavat Yulayev Ufa (RUS)
Tuomo Ruutu, Carolina Hurricanes (NHL)
Teemu Selänne, Anaheim Ducks (NHL)

This team could cause some noise. Some very talented players, such as Teemu, Ruutu, Jokinen, Koivu, Flippula, Salo, and Timmonen, and three very solid goalies. Think Rask has to be the starter though. And we all know what he's capable of if he gets hot.

Richard Panik, Tampa Bay Lightning (NHL)

Tomas Surovy, Dynamo Minsk (BLR/KHL)

Tomas Tatar, Detroit Red Wings (NHL)

Tomas Zaborsky, Salavat Yulayev Ufa (RUS)

If I felt better about their goalies, they'd be my darkhorse pick. Definitely have some depth at forward and defense. But I will say this- Capitals fans know better than anyone what Halak is capable of if he gets hot.

Have some skilled forwards, but wow that defense is bad. And Pavelec's their best goalie. That's going to be a problem.

Well, I now know where I stand in terms of my hockey knowledge. Of the players on those teams listed, of whom there are dozens and dozens of current NHLers, there are exactly 23 that I can be sure I've heard of.

Considering how bad Kokarev, among others, are, yes. You might as well be playing a man down when Kokarev plays defense.

So what does Kuznetsov not making Team Russia mean for his likelihood to rejoin the Caps later this season?
