I don't think he has any trade value at this point.
That's not remotely true.

If you take away the closer role from JJ, you really hurt his trade value.

Who is going to trade for a closer with 8 blown saves that many people believed wasn't nearly as good as his ERA and save total suggested last season.

Considering his salary next year, I think it is.
That's a fair point. However, he's a reliever with a career 3.16 ERA who is extremely durable, still relatively young and, for teams who care (which will be most) he has 90 saves over the past two seasons.
If the Orioles make him available, I think a few teams would be willing to make a deal. They may need to pay some of his contract but that's different from "no trade value".

This is still a sport obsessed with the Proven CloserTM. Someone would think that this was a bad year and take him on.

But for what? A C prospect with a slim chance of ever making the big leagues? I can't imagine anyone will give up a legit prospect or a legit piece for him. 8 blown saves is just ridiculous. Plus, he doesn't strike anyone out. A 6.8 K/9 is horrible. A lot of people can say it's bad luck that alot of the balls hit on him are bloops or soft singles but the fact is he pitches to contact and that is what happens. I sure hope I'm wrong and someone would give up a good return for him but I know if the O's gave up a good prospect for Johnson I'd be pissed.

If it's not no trade value, it's close to it imo.
If he were a free agent, it would be tough for him to command what he'll get in arbitration imo.
Exactly. Which is why he is a non tender candidate. I don't want to spend 8-9 mil on JJ next year. You think other GMs don't realize how expensive he is

Are you being sarcastic? I don't think he has any trade value.

Kevin Gregg got 2/10 after blowing 22 saves in three seasons.

No, you're not going to get anything for him. Just non tender him and spend the 8-9 mil more wisely.

Thorne asked Buck in the post game if KRod would move to the closer... Buck says no.

No one ever lost games underestimating the intelligence of Major League Baseball GMs.

Yeah, from the Orioles lol.

Because either way you have to use JJ in some crucial moments. hes not going to go be the 6th inning guy. So what difference does it make if he is the 8th inning guy, 7th inning guy or 9th inning guy. One thing you sure as hell don't want to do is make him a fireman and bring him in with runners on base. You need him starting off innings.
I mean at this point Buck is going to ride him even though hes likely already cost us a real chance at the playoffs.

And Oakland has scored 3 runs in the 8th now down 5-4. Watch them win now.

Yeah, from the Orioles lol.
That just made him the first example to come to mind
