That just made him the first example to come to mind ;)

I still shake my head when I see his name.

Because either way you have to use JJ in some crucial moments. hes not going to go be the 6th inning guy. So what difference does it make if he is the 8th inning guy, 7th inning guy or 9th inning guy. One thing you sure as hell don't want to do is make him a fireman and bring him in with runners on base. You need him starting off innings.

I mean at this point Buck is going to ride him even though hes likely already cost us a real chance at the playoffs.

I'd rather go with O'Day, Hunter, and K-Rod in some order in the 7th/8th/9th at this point than Johnson.

Are you being sarcastic? I don't think he has any trade value.

Ehh, I disagree...he will save well over 40 games again. His ERA will likely end up sub 3.3.

You may have to pay a little of his salary but unless he implodes the rest of the year, he will still fetch a decent package.

The save total isn't that relevant. The save % is though. Between that, his peripherals, and his salary, I can't imagine getting much for him.

If it's not no trade value, it's close to it imo.

If he were a free agent, it would be tough for him to command what he'll get in arbitration imo.

Kevin Gregg got 2/10 after blowing 22 saves in three seasons.

Two points:

Teams are slowly, but surely getting smarter about guys like Gregg and Johnson.

That's still not nearly as much money as JJ will get.

I think taking him out of the 9th inning role right now is the one chance to remove some pressure from him, and get him going.

Do agree that using him in a fireman capacity would be difficult as well... but coming in to bail out the mess of someone else, might be easier for him right now.

I think Buck would be best served just mixing up the use of Johnson, O'Day, Hunter, KRod... using each of them. If one isn't doing the job, go to the next.

He's making $6.5 million this season. It isn't going to go down in arbitration next season.

I'm not as bothered as others about the fact that JJ's continuing to get played in high leverage situations, I'm bothered by the fact that he gets a longer leash than the rest of the bullpen despite his performance not warranting it.

Here is the question. How are we are the O's players supposed to have confidence in JJ closing out a 1 run game when Jim Johnson has no confidence in jim Johnson closing out a 1 run lead.

Its one thing to stand by your guy. its another to keep going to a guy who doesn't even believe in himself.

I'm not one to usually give a lot of credence to body language etc.... but his body language entering the game tonight was not good. He looked apprehensive. His teammates had to see that as well.

Rubbish. That's all I have to say about the bullpen's performance YET AGAIN.

Johnson is done as a closer IMO. Don't see how you can continue using him. He's single handedly kept us out of the playoffs.

Call me crazy but I'd see if he could work as a SP before I cut bait with him. Maybe see if he would do an extended ST next year to convert over to a SP.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

He's having a terrible year this season.  In reliever terms, that probably makes him more likely to be awesome next year than if he was dominant again!
