Nice breakaway goal there.  Argentina looks real hungry.

That was a master class in controlling the midfield with quick accurate passing. Total domination by Argentina.

The Di Maria goal - when Argentina got the ball 6 players combined for 7 touches to cover the entire length of the field. You simply can't defend that type of play.

Craziness. Amazing stuff.

Does anyone know if penalties count as shots on goal for betting purposes

If he didn't have it already, that's gotta cement Messi as the greatest to ever play the game, right?

Unbelievable. What a game, what a tournament. Was pulling for Messi. I think I'd still give the golden ball to Mbappe. What a player.

He was already the GOAT in most peoples opinion. But this clearly cemented it.

How I wish they would have just kept playing. Go to golden goal at the 30 minutes of extra time. What a special final this was and so happy for Leo to get the one trophy he was missing.

The best player ever vs the best player in the game today and they both delivered.

Absolutely Golden Goal at some point. I mean that was thrilling stuff. Its as good as it gets for sports. You can match it. You cant top it. I do wish it was a golden goal format to bring that much more drama into the equation and let a team truly win the Cup.

Golden gloves award is awarded to the best keeper of all the tournament.

I have been lobbying for years that the format should be along the lines of this:

Tied after 90 minutes then two 15 minute halves. One additional sub. Same as it is now.

If tied after 30 minutes of extra time then go to 10 minute periods. Teams get an additional sub each extra 10 minutes. Golden goal.

And I would be fine with getting 2 extra subs each segment. Play till you have a winner.

IF the game goes so long that you are still playing AND you have used your entire roster (not counting keepers) then you can start reusing players already taken off would be ok too.

I mean, that was arguably the greatest international sporting event played in the 21st century, and it wound up hinging on how poorly Hugo Lloris was at stopping penalty kicks. He was like "teachable moments" bad for all the world to see.

Still, it's good to know just how much work the USMNT has to go to actually run with these two sides.

Almost as if it was meant to go down that way.
