The scene in Into the Wild where he asks to adopt the guy is so brilliant that I'm surprised Oscars don't fall into the frame and smother him right then.

I saw him live at Ford's Theater as Mark Twain in a one act play and he was incredible.
RIP
We did that too. He was a very good actor.

Hal Holbrook was the definition of an solid actor IMO.
His body of work is incredible.
His performance in Pueblo ( which I believe was a teleplay) as the commander of the Naval Ship that was captured by the North Koreans in 1968 made a great impression on me as a ten year old kid.

Liked Holbrook on West Wing.
That was a really good role for him, thoroughly enjoyable. Maybe I'll have "Schweppe's Bitter Lemon on Ice, with a Twist" today in his honor.

I just re-watched that movie on Sunday. I wondered if Holbrook was still alive while I watched it. He dies the next day. Ironic.
That scene is just crushing. What a great performance in a great movie.

Former heavyweight champion Leon Spinks, 67.
He won the title by beating Muhammad Ali in a 15 Round split decision in 1978. He was the only fighter to take the title from Ali by defeating him in the ring. He would lose the title less than a year later in a rematch with Ali, the last fight that Ali ever won.

He's a lot younger than I thought. I heard he was in hospice but assumed he was at least ~10 years older.

Yep, lost my Mom 9 years ago this past Sunday and my Dad the end of April last year - both to the same thing, Doesn’t give me a ton of hope for my future prognosis.
