It's a shame they keep allowing Zack Snyder to direct movies, instead of just being the visuals guy.
He's still leaps and bounds better than Michael Bay but yeah, he would probably excel at that.

First of all, I love the Transformers movies although that may have more to do with them being my fav cartoon growing up (along with He Man and the Thundercats).
Secondly. I think the Nolan Batman Trilogy was excellent. The Dark Knight Rises was one of the best theatre experiences I have ever had.
That being said, you can't compare them to the Marvel movies IMO. Its a different type of movie. Its like comparing a comedy and a drama. Just isn't a fair comparison.
Marvel in general is way more interesting and when you get into stuff like the XMen, they actually delve into real things that happened to this country and things like that. There is a lot more there than just guys who shoot lasers out of their eyes.
We know the Superman story...Its tough to make a good movie about him because he doesn't want to kill people and he can't really be killed. It makes him a very difficult character to write for.
The concept of this movie is stupid. Superman could literally kill Batman in about 3 seconds, if that long. I get the concept and why Batman could hold his own but that's only because of Superman not wanting to kill.

For me...
Some Superhero movies since 2005 better than Batman vs. Superman...
- Batman Begins, X-Men Last Stand, Iron Man, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Guardians of the Galaxy, Capt America: The First Avenger, X-Men Days of Future Past,
Some Superhero movies since 2005 that Batman vs. Superman is better than...
- Superman Returns, Fantastic Four, Rise of the Silver Surfer, Spider Man 3, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, Green Lantern, The Avengers, The Amazing Spider Man, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Solider, The Amazing Spider Man 2, The Wolverine, Avengers: Age of Ultron,

Superman vs. Batman has been done in comics, and cartoons roughly 25 times... this isn't a new concept.
Superman has died before.

Softening your stance on how good it is?
Forget about movies until you look back at lists.... so I guess somewhat. Overall, I think it holds up pretty damn well to comparative movies of the last decade. Yeah, it's at 29% on Rotten Tomatoes (262 approved reviewers)...but it's average rating is 3.8 / 5 from the other 160k who have given a review there.
My primary knock on Superman vs. Batman was that it was a bit longer than it needed to be. Though it was somewhat understandable, since it's trying to set-up The Justice League.
They didn't overuse the other characters. The did some requisite back story.
Caviezel is a bit rigid, but of course so is the character.
Affleck was good. And I completely disagree with Dupin about Eisenberg. Yeah, he plays Lex as more... 'eccentric' than other Luthors... but w/e... he made the character his own, and he's interesting on screen.
As far as the CGI... there are some movies where I find the overuse distracting. In this case, I personally didn't.
If we're comparing this to The Dark Knight - which was just a quality movie, and doesn't have to be limited to comic book movies - than this doesn't hold up.
If we're mostly comparing this to other comic book movies of the last decade, it holds up just fine.

I've heard so many terrible things about this movie. It actually makes me more curious to see it at some point, but I'll wait til I can watch at home.
Same here, curiosity won out.
It wasn't AS BAD as people make it out to be, I think the hype train got a hold of it. Seemed like they tried to cram WAY too much into one movie though, afterwards there was like 20 minutes of "what did I just watch".

This was pretty much my thought on it too. I think its worth seeing on the big screen though just for the sheer spectacle of it.I've heard so many terrible things about this movie. Well, here's a 12 minute long fan film that's about a thousand times better than any recent Superman movie.

Saw this tonight.
First of all, him "dying" is a dumb angle.
Secondly, they tried to put way too much into this movie. It was almost as if they were more concerned about the Justice League than they were this movie.
It had some entertaining scenes but overall, I think it was pretty poor and well down the list of superhero movies.
Him dying is a comic angle.
Your complaints are common ones... most agree with you. Still like it way better than most of the Marvel movies.

Yea, I don't think it's on the same level as most of the Marvel ones...I don't buy into these characters as ones you "care" about nearly as much.
Maybe they could have done a better job of that. Slow playing things out.
I didn't have a problem with what they did... didn't feel like they put too much in.
As I said in Bob's thread if best Marvel movies... I liked Guardians. Lked Iron Man. Liked the Winter Soldier.
I think you had it right in that thread... the key is understanding what these movies are. This isn't great cinema. It's whatever entertains you... entertainment wise, these characters / stories do it for me more than Marvel... but whatever... neither is anything particularly good.. just popcorn, blockbuster, mindless stuff.

That's cause you got used to the Marvel movies, that took a LOT more time to introduce EACH character and their backstory before throwing them into a big mash up. Superman is really the only one that got the intro because DC wanted to play catch up to Marvel.
I mean they are what they are, I like Marvel's long term play much better than the way DC did things, but the DC movies are still ok and I'm still going to go see them. Like Chris said, if that's the kind of movie you like you're going to like them.
Now, Suicide Squad on the other hand, way better than this.
