Alright!
Orioles acquire Scott Feldman and Tony Clevenger from the Cubs for Jake Arrietta, Pedro Strop, and int'l bonus slots.

My two most hated players traded away all at once! Way to kill two birds with one stone DD.

What does International bonus slots mean?

Very nice, Duq. Very nice.
How, and why?

Guess there was something to that rumor I posted in the trade thread.

What does International bonus slots mean?
You are allowed to trade your Int'l bonus slot money in the new CBA. So we essentially gave them some of our $ that we were never going to use anyway. DD plays chess while MacPhail plays Candyland.
Edited to add that I meant with regards to the creativity DD showed trading the money. Poor shot at MacPhail.

I really like this deal for the O's. It's unfortunate that Strop wasn't working out this year but the O's got something of value in exchange for him and Arrieta.
And Rob - essentially, at least the way I understand it, the O's traded away their allotted slot money to sign international free agents to the Cubs in this deal.

They were allotted $1.9M.

What does International bonus slots mean?
Last year, each team had a set $2.9M bonus pool for the international signing period. This year ('13-'14) teams were assigned four value slots - which just totals up their pool. This way they can be traded.
This year the O's had 23 ($520,010), 53 ($351,200), 83 ($327,300) and 153 ($150,900). So the O's traded one of those "slots" away. Decreasing our bonus pool, but increasing the Cubs'

Kind of an odd place for a shot at MacPhail, particularly considering how good he was at trades.

Nice. Feldman rounds out the rotation nicely. I'd still keep an eye out for an 'ace'.
Clevenger - 27 year old catcher with good minor league numbers offensively, Ryan Flaherty of April and May in the majors over 200+ at bats.

This strengthens the rotation but I don't think this move makes us any more likely to win in the playoffs.

Glen Burnie native Steve Clevenger.

Yeah, agree it was out of place. Was getting at how I love the creativity we have been asking to see for years. Poorly stated though.

Watching a lot of Rangers games over the last 4-5 years, Feldman tended to disappoint in big games. But those big games are fairly small'ish sample sizes, so I'm not making any proclommations here, just an observation.
I like this deal a lot.
I wish Arrieta and Strop well. Hopefully a change of scenery benefits them both, particularly Arrieta, who in the right NL stadium might be able to carve out a decent career as a back end guy.

Welcome home Steve Clevenger. He is a St Joe Alum (as am I)

We're better off than with Arrieta and Strop. It's an upgrade.

Fair enough.
