Couple of issues with this approach.

1. Most of the teams talked about already play in such a league...its called UEFA Champions League. Yes there are relatively weak teams in UCL from the smaller countries. One simple answer to me would be to change UCL to be similar to the League of Nations where they have different divisions. Just put the super clubs in the upper division.

and the big one

2. I suspect that if these clubs were to pull off this FIFA would revoke their memberships and keep them from FIFA sponsored events. And FIFA holds a huge hammer here. They could say to these clubs fine you have a right to do your own thing but your players are no longer eligible to play in FIFA events...so they can't play for their respective national teams or in the World Cup.

Some interesting stuff this morning. Freidburg, the biggest underdog today, wins "away" at Leipzig.  The echo's in the stadiums was weirdly loud. But at least soccer is back!!

I have tried to figure out just why Messi can't stay and just don't get it.

Here's the explanation for why Barca couldn't resign Messi. In a nutshell the league rules wouldn't allow them to take on that much more defecit.

Messi signs 2 year deal with PSG....clearly makes them one of if not the UCL favorite.

I'll have my take on this season's UCL next month but they are certainly trying. I mean an attack with Messi, Neymar, and some guy named Mbappe? That's gotta make any keeper shaking in their boots.

Can't wait for the first time they inexplicably draw with someone like Bordeaux

I hate the move.  Can't really explain why.  I've always liked Messi and had a dislike of PSG that I really can't explain.  Maybe as referenced above it's the attempt to buy titles.  He should have finished his career at Barcelona.

Well not so fast PSG fans. Its been no secret that Mbappe wants to leave next season. But apparently the signing of Messi has not made Mbappe want to stay, in fact the rumor is that he now wants out THIS transfer window.

More on the Mbappe saga. Very similar situation to baseball when a player is in his last year of a contract. Mbappe has already said he won't sign a new contract at PSG.

So here's PSG's scenarios:

1. Keep an unhappy player and hopes he still wants to win UCL enough that you have a great season. Then lose him next summer for nothing.

2. Trade him now and get the best you can for him.

This is a tough one but I think I'd lean toward moving him now.
