Yeah, I'm guessing there will be about 8 defensive players on the list. I think an interesting case can be made for a few guys you left off and I'm not sure if it's right to have only 1 active player being considered, and with that guy close to being done.

I mean Lewis, LT, White, Smith, Lott, Deion are 100% locks. Thats already 6.

Jerry Rice, Montana, B Sanders, Emmitt Smith, Manning, Brady, Elway, Young, Favre, Marino are also locks. that is 10 more.

Now you pick any other 4 you want but with the guys I cut down to in my post above and other offensive players I don;t know how you can put any other active guys in. Outside of the QBs in Brady and Manning I'm not sure I can put an active guy on the list right now. In 5 years that could easily change but too many other greats already retired. Football has the biggest rosters so picking just 20 is really squeezing out some great, great, great players.

I'm not convinced that all those guys are locks.

Yes, some greats will be cut out, no doubt.

Maybe no active players other than the ones you name will make it, but some are very worthy of consideration imo. Gonzalez and Moss are a couple of other active players that are just about done, but are definitely worthy of being on the list.

Well you just listed 16 guys without including an offensive lineman, defensive tackle, and with only having one receiver and no TE's and with some other greats to be considered at the positions already represented so I think it's hard to say that all of those guys are locks when we're only dealing with a 20 person list.

I'm also not a fan of having 7 locks at one position regardless of how important it is.

The most important position in sports. It's your list but if you don't put at least 6 of those Qbs on the list you lose credibility. I mean I hate Favre but he's number #6 for me and he's def Top 20. You're really gonna leave Marino off???

Well this is the best players list, not the most valuable or important.

I haven't done the list yet, but I don't think that many QB's should automatically be locks.

This is gonna be funny when Webber tries to use advanced football stats and Barry Sanders or Elway end up off his list.

Hilarious.

But seriously, why not just have like 12 QB's with your approach? I mean the 12th best QB over this time has probably been more valuable than some of those other locks you mentioned.

I wouldnt have 12 Qbs on it but there would be more Qbs than any other position. It wouldn't be close. I probably wouldn't have more than 3 players of any other  particular position.

Looking forward to hearing your list.

I'm sure I'll have more QB's than any other position by a decent margin too.

Just when I thought Hammel was starting to turn it around. Oh well can't win them all. Not excited to see Gausman tomorrow at all.
