BTW, Rob, we neglected to mention a very noteworthy and infamous athlete that should have been on the list imo. Can't believe I forgot him.

Lance Armstrong?

At least he's legitimately an awful person.
That's karma bitch... be a dick, and get overlooked by the best sports analysts in the world.

Yea a person who lied about doing roids (like countless other athletes) all while raising millions for cancer research.
What a hideous human being
There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

Lying about his use wouldn't be a major bad thing. But the way he aggressively tried to ruin the careers and lives of those who accused him (of doing things he was doing) make him an unquestionably bad person.
The money for cancer research is fantastic, but bad people can do impressively good deeds just as good people can do impressively bad things.
Eh, I think that sort of thing happens more than we know -- when it comes to steroids nothing surprises me anymore.

The steroid thing, who cares... the raising money thing, great... although he made more from that than racing.
The way he tried to actively ruin people's lives, as Mackus alluded to, is what I'm referencing.

Now we get to debate this (again)...
My take: good deeds don't erase bad deeds. Just because he raised money for cancer doesn't mean we should just say the end justifiy the means here. This isn't just a guy who cheated the system, he sued others (falsely) and destroyed their reputations.
I'm sure Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Raffy and others have done charity work, maybe not to the same extent and with a lot less publicity than LA.

Eh, I boil it down to
1) accused of steroids
2) acted like a cornered rabid dog with his teeth out in response
3) fallout
Anything else is just ancillary and could have happened/does happen with other athletes as well.

Uhm no it doesn't or else the press would have been all over it. Now Braun is villified for getting a guy fired that collects urine samples. The press was all over that. Lance was kept relevant by his cancer research he gained as much from that because he was the undercover good guy in fame with bracelets, tee shirts etc that he got in advertising himself.

While I do mind the steroids aspect more than most, it's the actively ruining others lives which really bothers me. I came away from the Oprah interview thinking he was just cold-hearted person. And let's be real, he was just admitting to stuff outside the statue of limitations. He's not only a fraud, but not a good person, who had some good lawyers.

I hate that as fans of sports we tend to completely overlook how much of a douche bag some athletes are just because they are athletes. I tend to hold them to the same standard as I would hold any normal human being, and I don't let them off the hook for being a douche.

Ok who are these athletes you speak of, who are actively ruining others lives like LA did?
