I definitely agree with Virginia at No. 1. Kind of hard to argue against them seeing as how they have outscored their opponents 57-23 in four games this season. Syracuse might not deserve that three spot. Yes, they are 2-0 but played played a struggling Albany and nearly lost to an Army team that currently has a losing record. Syracuse plays Virginia on Monday. That will be a true test for that team.

Maryland and North Carolina might deserve better rankings than Syracuse at this point of the season. But its still early in the season. Let's see how the season unfolds.

I'm considering starting to get much more into lacrosse. I've always enjoyed watching games whenever I do, and it seems like it's on TV a lot more now. Right now I only very, very vaguely follow the sport, but I do enjoy it when I do.

A MD run deep into the playoffs this year would go a long ways towards reeling me in and being a full-blown fan.

Considering that you have three Lax powerhouses that represent the state VERY well. Hopkins, Loyola, and Maryland are all among the best lacrosse programs in the country and are all worth watching. Even Towson Lax is in the midst of rebuilding and always play hard under Coach Nadelen. Even if you just wanted to go out and watch free high school lax, then Baltimore is the heart of the high school lax world with all the MIAA teams like Calvert Hall, Loyola, and Boys Latin, that produce Division-I lax starts year in and year out.

Also, big win for UNC over UVA in the ACC semis. UNC-dook today for the championship.

Yeah, and I root for Hopkins first and foremost in lax. But I still root for Carolina secondarily. And besides, anything dook is inherently evil.

So losing to the dookies in the ACC Finals yesterday was painful, especially after Hopkins got embarrassed by Navy this weekend too.

Right, my father was Class of '66, my uncle was Class of '63, and my cousin was Class of '68. Carolina was just in my blood from birth, and I've now passed it on to my son.

I got accepted to Chapel Hill and would have gone there if not for the fact that it wasn't especially well equipped for an Orthodox Jew, such as me. There was no way in hell I was going to Maryland or any other big-time sports school, and I came down to a couple Ivies, Hopkins, Brandeis, and Washington U. in STL. I went with Hopkins. My brother decided to go to College Park and couldn't stomach the mixed feelings over Carolina and Maryland. He eventually transferred to Towson to get away from that toxic feeling.

So I root for Hopkins in all things D-III and in D-I men's and women's lax. I root for Carolina in all things D-I, except when they face Hopkins in lax. And I always, under every conceivable circumstance, root against Jersey Tech South over in Durham.

Syracuse, the biggest of all lacrosse traditions with 15 national championships (as a Blue Jay it hurts me to type that), is in serious danger of missing the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2007, and only for the second time since 1983.

They are currently #16 in RPI, and with 16 teams making the tournament and a number of those automatic bids, they are on the outside looking in. They also don't have any real quality wins to boast of, although their schedule is, as always, a killer. InsideLacrosse has them at #17, and LaxPower has them all the way down at #20.

This is big news, considering they've made the Final Four in 25 of the past 29 seasons. Being left out is a huge comedown for a team that from 1983-2004 made every Final Four. Now they haven't been there since 2009. Keep in mind, that this is a team that since 1983 has never gone more than 5 years without a national championship.

As a Hopkins fan, I'm really enjoying this and hope it lasts for quite a lot longer.

If there is anything that points to the proliferation of the game, it's this, in my opinion.

I am from the Syracuse area so I do have a lot of perspective on this. Syracuse was not nearly as strong of a team this year as they were in the past. Their whole team top to bottom was far less talented than the years in which they had players like Joel White, Jovan Miller, Dan Hardy (who went to my high school by the way but that's not important), and the list goes on and on but you get my point. This is not the same team and honestly, does not deserve to make the playoffs. If they play Maryland, Hopkins, Duke or UNC, they will get run over. They can't handle teams like this right now.

No. 10 Johns Hopkins 10, No. 1 Loyola 9 OT

What does this mean? For Johns Hopkins, this game meant so much more than getting win number 10. The Blue Jays came into this match-up battered and bruised after two straight losses. Hopkins jumped out to 5-0 lead, thanks to a reenergized offense that put 40 shots on cage. Letting Loyola back into this game highlighted a problem that will plague this team into May, a lack of depth. This win should solidify a top-eight seed for the Blue Jays.

Who's next? Army

What does this mean? For Loyola their first loss of the season came at the best possible time. While a win over their arch rival would have made so much for the program, the Greyhounds now can place the chip right back on their shoulder. This team has played with an edge all season after starting the year unranked, and now the doubters will reappear. Coming back in this game, showed the fire power and confidence that this group possess. There is no time to dwell on this loss with the ECAC tournament kicking off in Denver on Wednesday.

No. 9 Maryland 12, Bellarmine 7

What does this mean? The Terps went into to a game that had letdown written all over it and took care of business. On "Senior Day" senior Joe Cummings lead the way with four goals and six assists. Maryland is now ranked 10th in the RPI, which is the biggest gauge of where a team will fall in the NCAA tournament picture. The Terps wrap up the season with a trip to Hamilton, NY to take on Colgate, who is ranked No. 9 in the RPI. With a win and some top teams falling, Maryland will secure a home game in round 1 of the NCAA tournament.

St. Joseph's 6, Towson 3

What does this mean? The Tigers qualify for the CAA tournament despite an awful performance against the conference's worst team. Towson's offense continues to struggle and is not showing signs of improvement. Towson was held scoreless for the 2nd and 3rd quarters, while only generating nines shots in the second half. So how did Towson qualify for the CAA tournament? With Hofstra's overtime loss to Penn State, the Tigers snuck into the postseason. Towson's reward for making the 2nd season, a trip to play the No. 1 team in the country UMASS. This team has made strides, but the journey ends Wednesday.

Binghamton 15, UMBC 8

What does this mean? UMBC is heading into the America East tournament, with a lot of questions that need answering. This team has shown a lot of resilience all season, making impressive comebacks and never letting down. In the regular season finale the Retrievers were ran off the field by a Binghamton team that had not won a conference game and had nothing to play for. The key now is putting this behind you and using the embarrassment as fuel. UMBC will host Albany Wednesday night and still have a great opportunity to grab the automatic qualifier that goes to the Champion of the America East.
