Thorwing 94 in the 8th. Unlike Arreita (aka the Tweet Monster) and Britton, I actually have sme confidence in Tillman.
Arrieta, if he ever got to the 8th without having just come in during the 7th, would probably be throwing 97!

Yeah we do. I was hunting for stills like that tonight, trying to see where he positions compared to other CF. Hard to find.
He looks like he's playing a little deeper tonight.
He had a good jump and was sprinting off the start on that last drive to CF. I think because he was positioned deeper it wasn't one of those debacle type plays.
When he first came up, he played very shallow. He might still be more shallow than most, but he's not as shallow as he once was.

I've argued before that I think Jones gets solid jumps.
A. He plays shallow so that plays a part in people thinking he gets bad jumps.
B. I don't think he tracks particularly well. You can get a good jump but if the route is bad, you can still find yourself in trouble. I mean the gif in the other thread where he completely overruns the ball or even the backhanded catches he dropped in New York or Seattle is him putting himself in a less than great position to field the ball.
He's playing deeper tonight as far as I can tell, that last drive to CF was a good example. I think he's most comfortable tracking over his shoulder while running, I'm sure some guys just have that preference, but when he's in too shallow, getting back fast enough to make the play square is impossible, so it leads to those circus plays, and when you are turning your body, running and trying to eye-hand the ball into the glove at the same time, it's a whole lot of moving parts to go wrong.

Flaherty really is a pretty big guy. He needs to get better. Got all the physical tools. Or at least some of them.

These sound unlike effort-related problems.
It's not like he's loafing every play. He's making effort mistakes and non effort mistakes. ANybody who watched the last two nights should have been upset with the play late in the game in Tues game and the play in the first last night. One he completely loafed and pulled up and the other he didn't get in position to make the best play on the ball. There is no excuse to be reaching that low, trying to make a shoestring catch when you can get down at ball level by diving and make the catch so much easier.

Yeah just something we have to keep an eye on, maybe it varies park to park. He looked much more shallow in SEA than he does here though.

I dunno, I think we are due for one of those starts where Tillman teases us and we get our hopes up. Can see him having a really great start tonight.
Hey, remember back at 10pm when I said this?

I didn't get to see the second play. Was burdened to only be following on the phone at that point. I do think that he thought he had the first one in hand without issue but it died on him way earlier than he expected. You could describe it as lazy, but I think the problem was he thought he'd get there easily but he misjudged it and it dipped sooner.
If you're gonna make a habit of misjudging borderline routine balls, then you have to hustle to every one. If you get better jumps, you can be "lazier". Adam misplayed that one. If he was a constant higher energy guy, maybe he gets there, but I don't think he's a bad player or person for playing more under control more of the time. I do wish he was better at reading balls off the bat.

I hope you guys are thinking what I'm thinking.
That Cabrera would have had that?
