Bob Nightengale

Remember when the #Athletics drafted Kyler Murray with their No. 1 pick in 2018, trying to convince him to choose #MLB over the #NFL? Well, he just signed a 5-year, $230.5M extension with Arizona Cardinals. He’ll earn an average of $46.1M a year. The A's entire payroll is $48.5M

Now here's something you don't see every day....Murray's new contract contains a "homework clause."

Weird. As the article suggests I'm wondering if this means he doesn't do any work outside of mandatory meetings, as why else would the team put that in? But as the article also says, there's probably no real way to enforce it either.

Safe to say he hasn't done much work outside the team complex up to this point. And yes, while I imagine there is a way that you can track when and how long he has an app in use on his tablet, that doesn't mean he's actually looking at it.

Always a good sign when you invest $230 mil in someone who doesn't do their homework.

More from PFT

https://profootballt...-watching-film/

In a New York Times profile from last December, Murray admitted that he doesn’t burn the midnight oil while studying pigskin celluloid.

“I think I was blessed with the cognitive skills to just go out there and just see it before it happens,” Murray said, via Sarah Kezele of 98.7 Arizona Sports. “I’m not one of those guys that’s going to sit there and kill myself watching film. I don’t sit there for 24 hours and break down this team and that team and watch every game because, in my head, I see so much.”

That arrogance is crazy. All the greats lived in the film room.

Clearly the Rams defense was watching film on him before their playoff game last season.

The team removed the homework clause calling it a "distraction" that was "perceived in ways that were never intended." How were people supposed to perceive an unprecedented requirement?

I like Browns game but just a tremendous trade for Baltimore. Likely got their starting C for 10+ yrs nearly straight up for him

He’s definitely got that AB DNA in him. Ticking time bomb and the Ravens got rid of it just in time.

Why do these guys think they can exceed the speed limit by that much and get away with it?   Ruggs last year, Brown over 100, and Lamar Jackson posted a picture a few years back of his speedometer over 100.  You would think Ruggs would have made people stop and think, but I guess it will take one of them getting killed to do that.

TBF I think Ruggs was doing 150+ while heavily intoxicated on city streets. Marquise doing 126 is obviously foolish, but if sober, and on an empty highway, a night in jail and dock him a game check for being stupid suffices.

When I was 20 I pushed my pos car to 105 on a flat, straight, vacant, Florida highway at about 3am while stone cold sober. I did it once, and never again. Dumb? Yeah. Did I think I would hurt anyone but myself? No.

Hollywood went for 14/140 today.

Funny thing though, you look at the highlights and his usage is basically identical to how we used him last year. 😂

They traded for Robbie Anderson, perhaps because of this. Schefter also said they gave up a 2024 6th and 2025 7th in the deal, yikes.

Cardinals’ WR Marquise Brown suffered a potentially season-ending foot injury Sunday, per sources. He is undergoing further testing today to determine the extent of the injury.

Ravens injury curse seems to follow the players even after trades... interesting.
