Waitwaitwait...you mean that a service that makes it ridiculously easy to sign up for accounts and whose users judge relevance on total number of accounts "following" you has an extremely high rate of no-show accounts?

ShockedFace.gif

Also a huge % of accounts which are just bots. Some people / companies keep those bots as 'followers' to artificially inflate their follower count.

Yeah you can pay I think $10 and automatically get over 1000 followers.

I just hate how there's so many accounts that aren't used but I want the handle. Dude in Thailand has @ChrisBacon and like 100 tweets and 50 followers.

That wouldn't look to realistic if I did that. I would need a slow build over like 5 years to get to 1,000.

Well, there are 2 slightly different things. There are 1000s (millions) of accounts which are unused... or used only to read and follow, with no activity. Then there are the bots... those can be active, but they aren't 'real'.

I have one of those; as a whole I use Twitter rather sparingly. When there are certain things going on such as trade deadlines or other events that will be broken on there and I'm looking for the break, I'll use it. Otherwise, I don't do much with it, as I don't feel I get much of a benefit above and beyond general website usage...yet. Also, I don't "tweet."

Right, and to me that is clearly a legitimate account. Doesn't matter that you don't tweet, you exist.... I only get annoyed when I see companies touting their number of followers, and it's obviously inflated by bots.

@DReynolds5294 12 years ago we had Johnny Cash, Bob Hope, and Steve Jobs. Now we have no cash, no hope, and no jobs. I really hope Kevin Bacon doesn't die.

Someone tell DReynolds5294 that 2011 called and wants its joke back.
