Anyone have any examples of a guy who started in the OF and made a mid career change to middle infield?

Melvin Mora and Craig Biggio (C to CF to 2B).Crazy career trajectory for Betts. Majority of his time at RF, with a decent bit of CF, then some IF starting last year.

Can't think of any others off hand. Did Yount ever move back to IF?

Pete Rose went from 2B to OF to 3B.

Betts was drafted as a 2B, and also got some work in as a SS in the minors before being moved to RF (Pedroia had 2B locked up back in 2014 when Betts arrived in Boston).

Right. Betts was actually a 2B that moved to the OF. Infield moved last year was out of some [desperation/need] on the Dodgers part.
What's driving this move to SS (he played some last year) is that Gavin Lux apparently can't make a good throw to 1B....so where Lux was SS and Betts was 2B, they are protecting Lux by flipping them.
I think the versatility thing is way overblown (mostly forced for the sake of it) but this isn't about moving guys around, this is about one guy who has the tools (physically and mentally) to do what's best for the Team.
Love everything about Mookie and his career.
