Wells had 9 points and 7 boards with a lot of time still left in the first half.

I think he ended up 13 and 8. He needs to produce more on a consistent basis. Credit Duke's D but still, he needs to do more.

Thus far, I am seeing a coach in Turgeon who is solid but one that Gary would coach circles around.

They can't ALL be hall of famers. I like Turge though. The hype was just a little too soon for MD. People caught wind of Len and jumped on them as a sleeper, but they aren't QUITE ripe yet. Need a year of Shaq developing down low, and need a real point guard (I THINK we have a blue chipper coming in next year don't we?)

They are on the right track though, and if for WHATEVER reason Len were to decide to stay (don't think he will, but he should) next year they would be a real contender.

The guards just suck on this team. Better guard play, especially PG play and this team would be close to where we thought they would be earlier this year. Not one of the guards is close to reliable.

That said, I saw some positive signs offensively this game, at least early. Some better IQ, not forcing the ball as much and some better looks at the basket.

I unfortunately expected this afternoon's beatdown at Cameron. Duke was coming off an embarrassing loss to Miami and they are too talented not to rebound at home against an inferior team.

Duke is the best in the country at floor spacing in their offense and their secondary break and watching their execution is textbook. Yes, I hate them like every Terps fan but you have to respect how they preach fundamentals. They place great value on recruiting shooters (something the Terps should mirror) which was a huge difference in this game and one of many reasons why the Terps could never get closer than 8 most of the game.

MD's problems continue on the offensive end. They continue to turn it over more than they dish out assists (14 to 10) and when they feel pressure some players divert from the offense and play too much one on one. They still kept things intresting into the half with tons of second chance points but their lack of patience and poor guardplay kept me from truly feeling as if an upset was in the cards.

Alex Len must touch the ball more. We've said it before and I'm tired of hearing commentators say the same. Run a set or quick hitter to get the ball in his hands when the offense stalls. Len won't hurt his draft status if he stays another year. The NBA drafts on physical stats, 7'1", with a soft touch is primo and teams feel they can coach him up on the pro level. With that in mind Dez Wells will also be on the NBA radar. Strength, speed and an ability to create his own shot will serve him well. That said does either player looks ready for the pros? NO.

I was impressed with Charles Mitchell. He showed solid post moves, good footwork and soft hands. I'm unsure why he didn't get more minutes today. Nick Faust is an infruriating player to watch at times but then again he isn't a point guard. Imagine how well this team would play if they had a floor general out there. I'd like to see Layman do more than just spot up. A strong take to the hole or a mid-range jumper can do wonders for your long range game. Very interested in the Seth Allen benching. I will say that he played more in control then I've ever seen. Some young players need a firm hand.

I read the comments about Turgeon and I'll say this; he will always get compared to Gary Williams and that's to be expected. But Gary Williams is a hall of fame coach who could motivate players and match x's and o's with the best in the business. He could also get a lot out of supposedly lesser players than the Mickey D squad. I don't think Turge had his best game today. I think he called a few timeouts quickly when he had the TV time out coming up and I would like to see them use the 1-3-1 and trap out of it to show a different look. Still, I also think he's a solid coach. Make no mistake though he's still a bit shorthanded now. (They desperately need a point guard) I will be very interested to see who comes in next season and how his freshman improve and progress. That will be a good measure of his worth.
