The Oscars are coming up next weekend. I haven't seen it yet but The Artist appears to be the front runner for Best Picture. I still have to catch up with alot of the best movies from last year but to me Drive and Take Shelter were unjustly ignored by the Academy.

I watched Contagion yesterday, pretty good. The ending was a little anticlimactic I thought but a solid 8/10.

Was gonna go see Chronicle tomorrow but my babysitter (my mom) got sick on me. Maybe next week.

Saw Contagion recently, I enjoyed it as well.

As far as Best Picture goes, I hope The Descendants wins. Thought that was excellent.

I've only seen Moneyball, The Tree of Life, and The Help and I'd rank them in that order. Been looking forward to seeing The Decendants for a while, heard great things about it.

Haha my wife loved that movie. I thought it was alright, probably like a 6/10. Fake chow lol.

It's been a very weak year for movies, IMO.

I still think Drive is the best movie of the year but when I watched it a second time, it loses its shock value, which is what makes it such a great first-viewing movie.

I really, really liked Beginners and Crazy Stupid Love. Two great uplifting movies that are pretty similar. They're both in my top five.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is in there too.

But outside of that, there is a big drop off. The Descendants is solid, but if you've seen Up in the Air, Kids are Alright or any of those "quirky family dramas" you've seen this. Clooney is always great, though.

The Artist is a fun little movie, it's cute. Bérénice Bejo is just adorable in it. That said, it's a one-note film.

Tree of Life was like being back in eleventh grade poetry class. You have to dig through a lot of boring stuff to get to something that means something to you.

I do sort of agree with this. I liked Up in the Air better than I liked The Descendants.

I thought Young Adult was pretty solid.

I think last year was a deep year for good but not great movies but lacked in truly great films, and the mainstream movies were particularly poor. 2012 looks a lot better in that regard.

Out of what I saw, 50/50, Crazy, Stupid, Love, and Moneyball were the best.

Films I am excited for in 2012...

Prometheus - really curious to see if this is an Alien prequel as was initially supposed to be, or just a film in that universe. The trailer supports the prequel idea.

Skyfall - hoping this is more like Casino Royale than Quantum of Solace. I think Sam Mendes will give us something good.

The Dark Knight Rises - yeah.

Seven Psychopaths - loved In Bruges and this has an even better cast.

Red Dawn - I am a sucker for the original and the casting looks intriguing for the remake.

I think this will be a good year for blockbusters so I'm looking forward to most of those. My most anticipated movie is Django Unchained. Looper looks good. The cabin in the woods too.

I am amazed that Girl With The Dragon Tattoo wasn't nominated for more Oscars. Best movie I've seen in quite some time. The book is even better.

Been looking to see that. With your positive review, I'll make it a priority and will check out the book as well. I understand it is a series, right?

Yeah. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is the first book, The Girl Who Played With Fire is the second book, and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest is the third book.

It did get nominated for five Oscars, but Daniel Craig should have gotten a nomination for Best Actor, and it deserved a Best Picture Nomination as well.

The books are good and the movie looks great, can't wait to see it. Love the atmosphere in the trailer and Fincher is always good.

I would highly recommend Take Shelter to anyone that hasn't seen it. Up there in my top 2011 movies. Michael Shannon deserved an Oscar nod. Jessica Chastain was nominated for the wrong movie.

It's crazy that probably my two favorite movies were completely ignored by the Academy.

It's supposed to be The Artist show tonight at the Oscars. I haven't seen it and it looks good enough but I'm just pulling for some upsets. I hate when the show is too predictable.

Next year should be much more interesting.

Last time in a movie theatre: Summer 2008. Did Step Brothers get any nominations this year?

Watched Hugo. Pretty good, I can see why it won all those technical awards. Beautiful film. I still say Rise of the Planet of the Apes deserved visual effects though. I'd rank Hugo behind Moneyball and The Tree of Life but behind The Help from the BP nominees I've seen.

I didn't think Hugo was all that great. Good looking film, wished I saw it in 3D.
