I agree with that, some teams could see this as bigger than a minor transgression. It's still 32 different businesses, operating with their own agendas/philosophies. That is why I don't think he falls out of the first round with the current info that's out there. There are going to plenty of teams who deem this more significant than the occasional pot use, or even injuries which impact draft stock every year.

The debate among teammates wasn't whether or not Manti actually knew this girl - it was clear that they had been in contact; no, players just didn't think that it was fair to call Lennay Kekua Manti's girlfriend, period (it is well-known on campus that he has had relations with other girls during his time at Notre Dame). They recognized what was going on for what it was - a terrible publicity stunt used to fuel Manti Te'o's Heisman campaign. In fact, many of the players privately commented that they didn't want the students to wear leis in support of Manti and wouldn't participate themselves - they cited that the team never responded so publicly to tragic events for other players. But there was also the feeling that Manti didn't deserve to benefit from publicity from the death of somebody he barely knew.

My statement: This is incredibly embarrassing to talk about, but I have been told by Alabama's offense that Manti Te'o is not real.
She/He/It/They is now just trolling.

I've definitely enjoyed Twitter the past 24 hours for all the Te'o jokes. I always love Twitter after news breaks, but this is one of the better ones since you can make so many jokes about it and it's not wrong to do it.L K @LennayKay

ESPN's John Clayton, "It will be a topic of discussion at the Combine. He's a good person, I think that is evident. This will have no impact on his draft status. He will go somewhere 5th to 10th overall."
The draft is over 3 months away. In the world of mass-media, that is a very long time. Like someone said, by then this will be very old news. He's probably lucky that this came out when it did.....after the NC game so it wasn't a distraction for that (not that it mattered) but well before the draft, and even the combine.

I said something along those lines, but I'm sure others did as well. I don't think it's a non-factor, just think it's better to evaluate things with some perspective than right away. If this had happened the night before the draft, I believe it would've had more of an impact. The draft is over 3 months away. In the world of mass-media, that is a very long time. http://sportsillustr... ... ax-quotes/ - Wow!!
And I agree with KVV here:
SI releasing Thamel's transcript shows exactly the reason why it was sooo weird Notre Dame came out in FULL FORCE behind Te'o hoax claim.
Did ND think the story would just go away? That enormous contradictions wouldn't emerge? She "flat-lined twice" and it's all a big hoax?

Nice seeing KVV's response in this too.
