Seriously, I was happy when the Orioles named Showalter as manager. I think this is great news, if the deal gets done. Players seemed to enjoy playing for him.

Buck not rolling out after 3 years, so he must like it here.

The sooner it gets done the better. Like someone mentioned, with Angelos nothing is certain until it is.

I agree with the "it's not a done deal until the contract is signed" sentiment and I know with Angelos the feeling is he could always screw it up. That said, I would be pretty shocked if a deal didn't get done given the reported relationship between Buck and Peter Angelos.Buck brings a level of creditability that the Orioles were lacking. In addition he is an excellent game manager.

They've certainly had some extensive meetings, it appears... but Duq is the GM. I doubt any real tangible assurances were made, other than PA just further convincing Buck that he's committed to giving Duq and Buck some autonomy to make decisions and the finances (up to a certain #) to get the job done. What does the extension to Buck mean for the rest of the offseason for the Orioles in term of moves? I don't think Buck and PGA meeting was entirely about signing Buck longterm.
The conspiracy theorists side in all of this has me wondering if any discussions were held regarding PA's contingency plan with the franchise (upon death, or selling).
