Fine with taking the chance. This is a #3 or #4 role at most, most likely I think.

I liked Nelson quite a bit actually and appreciate what he was willing to do here. He was willing to block and take on whatever Monken asked him to do with no complaints or hesitation. Still remember the story of him going to Lamar at the end of the Rams game last year and saying how he was sure he could drag a DB shallow and open up Flowers in the endzone, they called the play and he was right, and he celebrated like HE had caught the TD pass. Always appreciate a good TEAM guy.

Serious question as I don't know, but is Hopkins a good / willing downfield blocker? That matters here more than it does most other places. If he buys in to a "whatever I need to do role" then this can be a nice pickup.

Your posts in here are silly

Same exact thing people told me when I said the same exact thing about OBJ.

The Chiefs who famously need cheap productive WR help given their cap situation, and who had the privilege of seeing DHop up close and personal, decided they'd let the Ravens sign him instead.

Project his Chiefs stats out over a full year he has  roughly 750 yards and 6 or 7 TDs. What more do you want from a guy making 5 mil a year as a 2/3 WR. He is a vet. He commnds respect from opponents, especially in the redzone. Any Raven fan acting like we got 2018 Hopkins is being silly. Just like anyone who thought we were getting 2015 OBJ was being silly. Obviously the difference is OBJ got over 3 times as much money. Not sure why this bugs you.

Not overly excited about this signing, but I'd prefer Hopkins over Cooper Kupp.

OBJ got 1/15 though.  DHop is getting Nelson Agholor money and he's way better than Agholor.

I understand your concerns with him - he can't separate worth crap anymore and he's lost pretty much all his YAC ability so you can't throw to him and expect him to break off a huge play.  But he still can make contested catches and he's still a good route runner for short and medium routes.

For what it's worth he graded out at 77 on PFF for receiving, so he still has something in the tank it looks like, he just wasn't targeted too much.

There's the kiss of death. Hopkins rejuvenating all-pro season incoming.

I’m not totally up on the rules, but I sure hope this didn’t cost them in the comp pick equation.

I think signing Hopkins for the price they signed him makes perfect sense.  He is coming in to be a 3rd receiver,  and basically replaces Agholor.  He caught 56 passes and 5 TD's last year.  I think Nelson, had 16 and 1.

To me, this is a no brainer at the price.  I just glanced at the stats and he ticked up after going to KC last year.  He had 41 catches and 4 TD's in 10 games so he was still contributing.

For those that feel it was DHop over Cupp, I think your wrong.  Cupp was going to cost more and possibly even draft picks.

I think Hopkins is used in passing situations as a chain mover and I suspect he easily exceeds 16 catches and 1 TD.

My concern is this in some way, might mean they are going to move away from Andrews.

Nick Korte says it will cancel out Harrison's 7th rounder.

At the price, it just makes sense.

Yea, I read the same thing.  I would rather have DHop on next years team than a very late in the draft 7th rounder.

Also Josh Jones and Chris Board may net 7th rounders and we're capped at 4.

Ok, that's not terrible. Hadn't even heard Harrison signed with Pit. Thought signing Hopkins might mess with what they'd get for Stephens, which would have made it much worse IMO.

I like draft picks as much as anyone, but I have no problem giving up a 7 for a veteran WR who if he stays healthy will make plays that can help next years team.

Hopkins is an upgrade over Agholor.  That's good enough for me.

Nothing signing that doesn't move the needle.

Unless it does.  Neither you or I know whether it will "Move the needle".  If he catches 45-50 balls and 4 or 5 TD's, which he certainly is capable of, IMO that moves the needle.

I mean I don't have a problem with the signing although I don't feel it was needed. But do you really think he's getting 45 catches with Flowers, Bateman, Andrews(assuming he's not traded which everyone but me thinks is going to happen), and Likely in the offense? I don't see it personally.

If everyone stays healthy probably not but I think the Ravens felt very limited on the outside without Flowers against Buffalo.  Will he catch 45, who knows but if an injury happens 45 could turn a low estimate.  He caught 41 in 10 games with KC
