In this thread...  react to the previous posed hypothetical, and then provide one of your own.

ie.. this is something I think happens this year.

The Previously Stated Hypothetical / Possibility

My Reaction To That

This Is Something I Think Happens This Year (With a new Topic #)

Topic 1)  I think the O's win the AL East.

The Yankees did a nice reloading after losing Soto. They've got a quality rotation, and was bummed to see them get Williams added to their pen.  Goldschmidit could rebound some in that bandbox. Even being RH, he's strong enough to find that short porch in right with some regularity. I like the youth of the O's better, and expect the division crown. Know some like Boston... and who knows Toronto, or Tampa Bay could surprise, but I like that the betting odds, and sites like FanGraphs have NY winning. Think the O's are in a good place.

RE: Topic 1: They don't have the pitching to win the division. I think it's more likely they finish 3rd than 1st.

Topic 2) The Orioles finish the season with less than 3 of their opening day rotation members active and on the MLB roster.

I think this is the year Grayson's arm blows up (he's been trending that way anyway), Morton is like 3 years away from AARP membership, and Sugano is entirely unproven. Povich has never thrown a full season. Maybe Kremer makes it. Rogers probably struggles his way to a 5.50 ERA season. Eflin is the only guy to really feel confidence in.

Regardless, I think they are desperately trying to buy pitching at the deadline, fall short again, and will limp to the finish line.

Topic 3) The AL MVP will be on the Orioles roster, and the Orioles will win multiple playoff rounds.

You went one post and did it wrong. :)

React to the previous post, and then post something new with a new Topic #.

I'd quibble with calling Sugano entirely unproven, but I get the point.
He's been excellent at AAAA.
We will see how he does with a different ball, more travel, more guys swinging from their heels, less games in domes.
If he keeps the stuff he had in '24 (velo and movement), he's going to be productive.
He will give up more homers, but he will also k more batters.

Rodriguez's arm blowing up is certainly possible.
It's also possible he takes another leap and is a legit front end arm.

Starting the year with Rodriguez, Eflin, Morton, Kremer, Sugano...  end the year with less than 3 of them? I'd expect at-least 3 of them end the year in the rotation.

I do think you are right that they probably are looking to add a starter at the deadline though.

Topic 4)  The O's reach an extension with Adley by the All-Star Break

I just feel like an extension with Adley is going to happen.
Maybe as early as Spring Training.
Maybe Adley wants to rebound from the 2nd half first.

Topic 3) The AL MVP will be on the Orioles roster, and the Orioles will win multiple playoff rounds.

Gunnar is certainly capable of winning MVP. I think he's currently 3rd in the betting odds.

The playoffs are a just a roll of the dice to me.
I believe the O's will be there.  We will see what happens once there.

Topic 5) Mountcastle is helped by the wall moving in, but is traded.  O'Hearn is probably also traded.

Really hard for me to see Mountcastle not being traded during the year.  I expect O'Hearn is as well.

I like them both, particularly Mountcastle.  Never going to have that high obp, but he's hits the ball hard.

When he's hot, he hits everything.

After those trades, Mayo takes over 1B and lights it up at the plate.

Topic 6) Holliday continues to struggle, and doesn't stick this season.

I hope I'm wrong, but something is still nagging me about how badly he did last year.

Good news! I saw a dog today.

Topic 6) Holliday continues to struggle, and doesn't stick this season.

5) I do think Mountcastle being moved for everyday at-bats for Mayo is what happens.  Do expect Mayo to be productive. I will say I was surprised in my first look at Mayo, that he looked stiff to me. Not fluid. He also struggled to cover the outside of the plate.  He's very strong, and there is bat speed, so he's going to run into enough balls, and he should be able to use the entire field for power. He's got better power, and obp skills than Mountcastle, and he's got the additional years of control... so you clearly go with him.... but I'm not convinced he's going to outproduce Mountcastle in the near-term.

6) It was a rough 190 ab's, save for that stretch in August.  There was similar concern from some about Cowser entering '24, after his poor 60 ab's in '23. I think Holliday will settle in and be one of the more productive 2nd baseman in the league.  If he were to have a rough 6-8 weeks to start the year, then maybe you could see Mayo (and his limited glove) at 3rd, with Westburg at 2nd.

Topic 7) The O's draw 2.4M people in '25.

The O's were 19th in attendance in '24 with 2,281,129 people, 28,514 per game.

The O's were 21st in attendance in '23 with 1,936,738 people, 23,911 per game.

Attendance a bit slow out of the gate as fans didn't go as hyped into the off-season in '24, as they were in '23, and people aren't as excited as Spring Training nears compared to last year....  but the attendance picks up during the year, as the O's on-field play brings people back.

Chris, are we only supposed to pick up the last statement in the thread or do we respond to any statement and pose our own?

Ain’t happening. Unless the wheels completely fall off.

10) Almost the entire fan base turns on Rubenstein/Elias after an eventless trade deadline

I think they limp the first month or 2 months and Elias cans him. He's clearly on the hot seat now. If they miss the playoffs this year he is gone. If they flame out in the playoffs again he is gone. I think Elias feels the urgency and finally realizes he needs a vet manager in here to whip em into shape.

As far as fans turning on the FO/ownership. Feels to me like 70% of the panic monkey fanbase has done that already.

Topic 9)  Hyde is fired midseason

I'm not sure when, but I think he will get fired this year and the reason he gets fired won't really be his fault.

11) The Orioles don't make the Playoffs

Kind of the opposite of 1), 3).  The roster has plenty of Talent to compete, but non-Talent factors weigh heavy.  Hyde gets blamed.

I'll take the over.  I expect GRod, Eflin and Kremer all to have solid seasons.

...but on a related point...

12) On September 9, Charlie Morton throws 7 solid innings of 1-run ball at home against the Pirates and with a 6 run lead, leaves his hat and glove on the field and retires.

Agree. They don't make the playoffs.

If he's fired, I think it will be early.  Like wheels come off early.  Memorial Day.

Topic 13) Tyler O'Neill is a big talking point all year

He either stays heathier than he has typically throughout his career and is productive.... or there is lots of talk locally about how the O's should have brought back Santander, or just handed the job to Kjerstad and used his salary elsewhere.
